Sitting proudly on the edge of the Lake District National Park, this grade I listed hideaway has it’s origins way back in the 14th century and is the former family home of the Earls of Lonsdale.
In addition to the delightfully refurbished Medieval Hall, which is perfect for smaller weddings, you also have the option of using the grade II listed Bank Barn. This has been beautifully restored to the highest standard creating a more spacious area for your wedding. The barn boasts original features, such as stone walls and beamed oak ceiling, combined with contemporary décor.
Moving outside, you have a recently the Wedding Pavilion within the Grade II listed gardens. There is even a freshly refurbished Gypsy Caravan for couples to sign the register, all set amid 12 acre gardens boasting an orchard, formal lawns and a 230 foot long double herbaceous border.

Tell us about your venue
Historic Askham Hall is a distinctly different place to say ‘I do’. An exciting new style of country house hotel and wedding venue for Cumbria. It’s style? Luxurious, intimate, unpretentious, up-to-date and full of charm.
Sitting on the edge of the Lake District, this grade I listed hideaway opened in 2014 with bedrooms, a restaurant, gardens, spa and wedding/ party spaces. It dates back to the late 1200’s and is the former family home of the Earls of Lonsdale.
As well as a stunning Barn and a Medieval Hall, there is a Pavilion in the Grade II listed gardens, and a Gypsy Caravan for couples to sign the register. All set amid 12 acre gardens boasting an orchard, formal lawns and a double herbaceous border. Enjoy uninterrupted views of the River Lowther and surrounding countryside.
The Grade II listed Bank Barn has been sympathetically converted and has capacity for 150 seated guests. Original features such as bare stone walls and an open beamed oak ceiling, together with contemporary lighting, stylish décor and large glass doors, make it a truly unique setting for a wedding reception all year round.
Askham Hall offers wedding menus bursting with seasonal style and ingredients straight off the Lowther family estate, has two stunning churches nearly and is licensed for civil ceremonies.

Do you offer civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies?
Absolutely. We are licensed for civil ceremonies, both in the barn for larger parties at weekends, in the main house for smaller parties, as well as the outdoor pavilion (weather permitting) and medieval hall.
Alternatively St. Peters Church, Askham is located a stone’s throw from the venue. A romantic walk takes you from the church through the gardens and onto the wedding barn. Thirteenth century St. Michael’s Church with its strong family connections, overlooking Askham Hall, the River Lowther and with views of Lowther Castle, is also close by.
Do couples & their wedding party have exclusive use of your venue?
Yes, they can do if they wish.
Venue capacity – How many guests can attend the day ceremony, if applicable, wedding breakfast & the evening reception?
Our main space Bank Barn seats up to 150 guests, and can hold 190 evening guests standing. Smaller weddings are possible in the house, as well as even larger weddings with the addition of a marquee. Anything from 2 to 320 people is possible!

We don’t offer packages, every wedding is completely bespoke and tailored to the bride and grooms’ needs.
Do you have in-house catering, or preferred suppliers or are couples free to choose their own caterers?
A variety of catering options are available, utilising locally sourced produce, grown and reared at Askham Hall itself and on the family estate. Tables, chairs, linen, crockery, cutlery and glasses are provided.
Can couples supply their own alcohol for the evening? Is there a corkage fee?
Yes they can, and there is a corkage fee.
Are couples completely free to choose their own wedding entertainment & do you have a specific sound system?
Absolutely, they may choose who they wish, we can provide recommendations too.
Do you offer accommodation on site? If so, for how many guests?
Yes, we have 18 twin/ double rooms at Askham Hall and a further 11 rooms our sister country inn in nearby Clifton.
Do you have an in-house wedding co-ordinator?
How far in advance can couples or their wedding stylist, florist etc have access to the venue in order to decorate it?
The day before the wedding. Couples may decorate the venue as they wish. A variety of florists, hair and make-up stylists, dressmakers, photographers, cake makers, music bands and other services can be recommended.
Do you have gardens or an outdoor area for wedding photographs?
Yes, the stunning grade II listed gardens are perfect for photographs.
What’s your best advice to couples when choosing their perfect wedding venue?
Go with your gut feeling, first impressions are usually right!
