Longton Wood – A Magical Woodland Wedding Venue in the Kent Countryside

by Michelle

Longton Wood is such a stunning woodland setting for your wedding. Nestled in the heart of the Kent countryside, in an area of outstanding natural beauty,  it’s a truly magical venue for your big day.

Longton Wood is part of an ancient bluebell woodland with a mix of pine and deciduous trees towering above. It’s exclusive use means that you can enjoy the natural woodland flora and natural woodlands however you wish.

And of course, the tranquil setting is a photographer’s dream. There’s even a trail around the site with three stations for outdoor photo booths  which you can accessorise to match your wedding theme and colours.

You will also have the reassurance of knowing that the team will be with you all the way to ensure that the lead up and your big day itself will be such an enjoyable and memorable experience.

We’ll hand you straight over to Jennifer now to tell us more about this wonderfully unique venue.

Tell us about your venue

Longton Wood is part of our family run farm.  In fact the venue was created by our family for the weddings of the two farmers daughters to their respective husbands! The idea was dreamt up following years of walking and riding through the clearing and of course after watching the twilight wedding.

Longton Wood is set amongst beautiful Kentish countryside in the north Kent downs, an area of outstanding natural beauty.  The woodland itself is an ancient bluebell wood with a mix of dutch elm pine tree (twilight trees!) and natural English woodland.  The venue has large all weather car parking, space for glamping, a woodland blessing area as well as the main reception space.

There is a woodland pathway that leads guests from the carpark through the different areas, this is lit by festoon lighting and in spring lined with bluebells.  The reception space is completed with a tree swing, wishing well and long sofas, carved from tree trunks around a firepit.

We have a standard hire period which includes the day of, day before and day after your wedding, couples and their guests are welcome to camp/glamp here for the entire period, our aim is for your wedding to be an event not just a day!

Do you offer civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies?

We have a blessing area but no license for a legal ceremony. There are churches nearby as well as a registry office in Maidstone (our nearest town).

Do couples & their wedding party have exclusive use of your venue?

Yes and you have three day hire as standard Friday 9 am to Sunday 2:30pm (if your wedding is on a Saturday)

Venue capacity – How many guests can attend the day ceremony, if applicable, wedding breakfast & the evening reception?

Marquee area can seat 250, evening up to 400.

Tell us just a little about any wedding packages you offer

We don’t offer packages as we hire as a blank canvas and primarily as a DIY venue.  We do have a number of different suppliers who we can put you in contact with to help you with planning and whom can put together packages if desired.

We also work with a wedding event company who if you wish will take on the planning and co-ordination of your entire wedding.

Do you have in-house catering, or preferred suppliers or are couples free to choose their own caterers?

Free to choose.  We have had a variety of three course sit down banquets to hog roasts and pizza vans to bring our own picnics. We love all the different combinations couples choose.

Can couples supply their own alcohol for the evening? Is there a corkage fee?

Yes absolutely, we do not charge corkage.

Are couples completely free to choose their own wedding entertainment & do you have a specific sound system?

Completely free, no sound system

Do you offer accommodation on site? If so, for how many guests?

We have an area for camping/glamping the area can fit 16 5m bell tents (these sleep up to 6) we have the capacity to accommodate more if needed and can make space for campervans if needed.

Alternatively there is also b&b accommodation at the farmhouse, 2 minutes away.  There are hotels and B&Bs locally too.

Do you have an in-house wedding co-ordinator?

No but we do work closely with a wedding co-ordinator The Wedding Dolls, if you would like to have a on the day co-ordinator we highly recommend them.

We give you a point of contact so that if there are any questions or issues we can support you as best we can.

How far in advance can couples or their wedding stylist, florist etc have access to the venue in order to decorate it?

The marquee has access to the site according to their time needs so that this is in place and ready for the Friday (or what ever the day before the wedding would be) the couple and their stylists, florists etc then have the Friday (or the day before) available to set up and decorate.

Do you have gardens or an outdoor area for wedding photographs?

Our whole venue is outside.  We have a variety of spaces for couples and their photographers to explore to have photographs.

What’s your best advice to couples when choosing their perfect wedding venue?

Our tag line is ‘Carve out your love story’ and that’s because we really want couples to have the opportunity to have the outdoor wedding of their dreams without constraints and packages, so we advise to let your imagination run wild, let your personalities shine through.

We have an extended hire period as standard, we want you to really make your wedding an event, not just have a day that flies by so quickly, enjoy the setup the day before, have your families and friends involved, celebrate on the day until the early hours and soak up the ambience the day after.

You will talk about your wedding day often and remember all the little bits that happened….it is the start of the journey and your memories you make along the way are your investment for the tough times.

Any finally, what are your favourite moments from previous wedding you’ve been involved with?

There are so many! To date we have welcomed a beautiful Samoyed to the venue to be the ring bearer for his mummy and daddy, we are pet friendly!  We have had a couple and their entire wedding party glamp with us for two nights, accompanied with blow up hot tubs. Every wedding is different and it is a pleasure to have a small part to play in them.
