The Night Yard – A Quirky Unique Wedding Venue Set in the Glorious Kent Countryside

by Michelle

The Night Yard is a truly unique wedding venue set in the glorious Kent countryside. It’s such an unusual venue that just oozes that kind of chilled laid back charm that we’re all looking for in a barn wedding venue.

Fabulously fun and quirky, The Night Yard was originally just that; housing the adjoining farm’s dairy herd overnight. Totally transformed now into a beautiful wedding venue with a bohemian, free-spirited feel, you can decorate it as much as you like, or simply enjoy it’s simple rustic charm. It’s very much a case of your day, your way, with the support of The Night Yard team of course.

The Night Yard is a self-contained quadrangle with a central grass courtyard set amongst apple orchards. It’s the perfect combination of fluid indoor/outdoor space that lends itself to one heck of a party.

With so much more to share with you, we’ll hand you straight over to The Night Yard team to tell you more.

Tell us about your venue

The Night Yard is a quirky restored yard which originally housed our dairy herd over night and now is the stage for  an unconventional exclusive use venue!

When you and your guests step into the venue it all becomes clear the uniqueness of our space. A central grass courtyard is surrounded by an original cloistered area, marquee and refurbished stable block. The space is a free flowing venue and everyone is always together during an event.

Our approach to weddings means that no two weddings are the same and we as a venue share your excitement for your dream day.

Do you offer civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies?

Yes we do! We love being able to share the magic of the whole day! We have the undercover cloistered area available for ceremonies which allows guests to either be on the grass or under the eaves. During the winter months we also have the stable block available for couples to say their vows.

Do couples & their wedding party have exclusive use of your venue?

Couples and their guests have exclusive use of The Night Yard. They also have access to the orchard and our wild flower meadow (this they may have to share with the odd tractor or horse passing by!)

Venue capacity – How many guests can attend the day ceremony, if applicable, wedding breakfast & the evening reception?

Day Ceremony and breakfast 140 guests

Evening reception up to 200 guests

Tell us just a little about any wedding packages you offer

We don’t do packages!

Do you have in-house catering, or preferred suppliers or are couples free to choose their own caterers?

We have a great selection of caterers that we work with. These incredible maestro’s have been handpicked by us for their passion of food and great customer service.

Street food more your style? Then we have taco bars,  sour dough pizza’s (made out of the back of a converted land rover), ‘proper’ burgers, paella to name just a few options.

Then for those that want the traditional style wedding? Then that’s not a problem either we have 3 super caterers who tailor menus to couples needs with a fresh approach to wedding catering. Seasonal, local and sustainable menus at the forefront of our suppliers catering.

Can couples supply their own alcohol for the evening? Is there a corkage fee?

We allow couples to supply ½ a bottle of wine corkage free but our bar provider also does a very reasonable drink combination should you wish to remove the stress.

Are couples completely free to choose their own wedding entertainment & do you have a specific sound system?

Couples may provide who they wish to tailor their day to how they want it. We have many bands play outside on the grass! Kick off those heels and dance on the grass!!

Do you offer accommodation on site? If so, for how many guests?

No but there is plenty nearby,

Do you have an in-house wedding co-ordinator?

We have an in house venue manager who over sees the venue on the day. The Night Yard team however provide support, guidance and inspiration to the couples and their suppliers. We know the venue inside out which helps!

How far in advance can couples or their wedding stylist, florist etc have access to the venue in order to decorate it?

Couples have access on the day of their event from 9am, although to allow for effective planning we do allow couples to bring any suppliers to the venue for site meetings.

Do you have gardens or an outdoor area for wedding photographs?

We have our apple orchard and wild flower meadow which are great for photos and for the couples just to have a few minutes privately together.

Within the venue is Bertie our beautiful red vintage tractor!

What’s your best advice to couples when choosing their perfect wedding venue?

Don’t rush into making a decision and look at all sorts of venues to really help you decide on what you do and don’t like! When making a decision make sure it is for you and your partner not because Granny Sue would approve. It is YOUR day!

Any finally, what are your favourite moments from previous wedding you’ve been involved with?

I’m not being cheesy but they honestly have all been so great. It is such a joy being part of these amazing days which are all so personal to the couple. To be on such an incredible journey of ideas, emotions and seeing this all come to life if incredibly heart warming for The Night Yard team.
