Wedderburn is the perfect location for your Scottish castle wedding and reception, or for a barn wedding. The sweeping stone stairs at the castle provide a dramatic entrance, leading to four spacious and elegant reception rooms whilst the barns provide a rustic party venue for use with or without the castle.
Wedderburn is an exclusive use venue meaning that you are free to kick back and relax. Offering guests the greatest possible level of privacy and freedom of choice, this is a country house that really feels like your own.
Civil, humanist, religious and interfaith wedding ceremonies are all welcomed at Wedderburn Castle. Your wedding can take place in any of their licensed rooms, outdoors on the castle lawns or at Wedderburn Barns.
We’ll hand you over to the events team now to share more details of what’s on offer with you.
Tell us about your venue
In 2013 we launched Wedderburn Barns, a relaxed rustic space that couples can use as a blank canvas to create their own very individual wedding.
The castle and barns can be used individually, or couples can combine the venues to provide the contrast between the grandeur of the castle and the laid-back atmospheric barns.
Do you offer civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies?
Yes. It is possible to hold civil marriage and partnership ceremonies as well as religious and humanist ceremonies.
We offer a variety of spaces for wedding ceremonies: the castle ballroom, the barns courtyard, the castle lawns or the Cartshed at the barns.
We have also just launched a new woodland wedding site called the Sylvan Horseshoe.
Do couples & their wedding party have exclusive use of your venue?
Yes. Wedderburn is not open to the public and does not operate as a hotel so you have exclusive use to enjoy your wedding day.
Venue capacity – How many guests can attend the day ceremony, if applicable, wedding breakfast & the evening reception?
We have capacity for up to 150 at the barns for ceremonies, drinks receptions and dinners and we can host drinks receptions for up to 150 at the castle. It is also possible to use the castle for ceremonies and dinners for up to 80 guests.
Both the castle and barns are very flexible spaces and also suitable for smaller weddings. This year we hosted a barn wedding for 30 guests and we once hosted a wedding at the castle where the bride and groom rented the whole place for just the two of them!
Tell us just a little about any wedding packages you offer
All of our weddings are bespoke, but for barn rental we offer a series of three rental options: the barns only; the barns with a drinks reception or ceremony at the castle; or use of the barns and castle during the day and then the castle as accommodation.
At the castle we offer a variety of accommodation options for one-night, two-night and longer stays.
Do you have in-house catering, or preferred suppliers or are couples free to choose their own caterers?
We have a panel of five approved caterers. They are all great and offer a real variety of prices and styles of catering. Whether you are looking for a hog roast, street food or formal banquet our caterers will be able to provide it!
We are always happy to discuss catering options and suggest which of our caterers are most suitable for a client’s preferred style of catering, and also to offer practical advice along the way.
Can couples supply their own alcohol for the evening? Is there a corkage fee?
Yes. All of our caterers will allow couples to bring their own alcohol or most will also provide a cash bar if preferred. We do not charge any corkage. The caterers may charge corkage or a drinks service charge if couples bring their own alcohol.
Are couples completely free to choose their own wedding entertainment & do you have a specific sound system?
Absolutely! We can recommend all sorts of entertainment from ceilidh bands to jazz groups to DJs but everybody’s wedding is different and it is very much down to them to choose the entertainment they wish.
We find that all bands and DJs like to take their own equipment but we do have a PA system that is suitable for speeches and for background music during dinner.
Do you offer accommodation on site? If so, for how many guests?
Yes. We can accommodate up to 26 in the castle, and a further 16 in the luxurious cottages and lodges around the estate. We are also about to start working with a company who provide luxurious bell tents for campers.
Do you have an in-house wedding planner?
Yes. Owners Cat and David are very hands-on and have extensive events experience. Cat looks after wedding planning and can provide help and advice throughout the planning process.
We also have a team of experienced events staff and there will be an Events Manager at the venue throughout your wedding day to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
How far in advance can couples or their wedding stylist, florist etc have access to the venue in order to decorate it?
We can always offer access to the barns from midday the day before the wedding – sometimes earlier subject to availability. Florists and stylists are given access to the castle the day before the wedding for castle weddings.
Do you have gardens or an outdoor area for wedding photographs?
Wedderburn is surrounded by 80 acres of glorious parkland. Whether you would like to have formal lawns, ancient trees, a courtyard garden, hayfields or bluebell woods as your backdrop we can offer it!
What’s your best advice to couples when choosing their perfect wedding venue?
Choose a venue that offers options. It is good to have access to really nice indoor and outdoor spaces. We offer both, and also lots of photogenic archways where couples can stand for outside photos without getting wet in the event of rain!
Experience counts. Choosing a well-established venue with knowledgeable staff who have worked at the venue for a while will take a lot of the stress out of wedding planning.
Any finally, what are your favourite moments from previous wedding you’ve been involved with?
It’s magical to see such a very special moment in a bride and groom’s life, making eternal vows to each other surrounded by their friends and family.
Little children at wedding ceremonies always add an element of the unknown: a lot of cuteness and some very funny moments.
It’s always great to see everybody getting on the dance floor after dinner and all the generations letting their hair down together too.
