Wolf & Ink design gorgeous contemporary letterpress wedding stationery. We love the wonderful texture that’s achieved using traditional letterpress machinery, the most popular versions of which create a deep impression on your stationery without the print showing through on the reverse. This makes for a wonderfully tactile suite of wedding stationery that fits perfectly with both classical and contemporary wedding themes and styles.
Julia, the founder of Wolf & Ink skillfully designs and prints a wide range of letterpress stationery for weddings, personal use and corporate clients. What really stands out with Julia’s work is how she incorporates age old letterpress technology with modern designs, contemporary calligraphy styles and the most gorgeous range of coloured inks. If you thought that all letterpress stationery had to monochrome, then you’re in for a really lovely surprise when you see the range of colours used in the stationery below.
You can choose one of Wolf & Ink’s off the peg designs, from cute and funky to classically elegant. Or if you have something specific in mind, why not select their bespoke option to compliment your wonderfully unique wedding? Either way, your wedding stationery will look amazing. Tell us a little about yourself and your business
Hi I’m Julia founder of Wolf & Ink, a London based letterpress design and print studio specialising in wedding stationery. Letterpress is a traditional printing process that creates a beautiful textured finish.
Here at Wolf & Ink we love to combine this traditional hand-craft process with contemporary graphics and colours and explore unique new ways to print letterpress.
Key to the ethos behind Wolf & Ink was to create a sustainable business that was part of the revival of traditional crafts and trades. All the materials and suppliers are recycled and sourced within the UK. Each item is handmade on antique equipment, a vintage guillotine for cutting, and the printing press itself is over 100 years old.
What motivated you to start your business?
I’m a qualified architect and stationery aficionado, who fell in love with letterpress due to the amazing tactile quality of the prints, which had so much more personality than the standard printing methods today.
After giving my heart to letterpress printing, I set to work creating designs that suited that printing style perfectly. I love the freedom of working for myself and creating beautiful wedding stationery for our wonderful customers.
Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business
I split my time between emails, designing, printing, packing, and running the business! There are so many jobs to do all at once but my favourite thing to do is design, either bespoke invitations for clients or new ranges for our “Ready to Go” collection.
Every year in the lead up to wedding season I like to prepare myself in advance so I can fully embrace the busy few months ahead.
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
To quote some of our lovely customers’ reviews you can expect,:
“A professional, efficient and friendly service”
“The quality of the finished product was excellent – beautifully made, distinctive and personal“
“We have received so many complements on the quality and design. Highly recommend for if you are looking for a hand-crafted, artisan, quality product”
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
It is really important to order samples to get a feel for the quality and style of the products. Our lovely customers seem to know straight away if we are the right company for them.
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
As a huge animal lover I always enjoy designing wedding invitations for couples around their favourite animals! We’ve included many dogs, cats, squirrel, owl, deer and even dinosaurs! I have two dogs, Winston and Mabel, who come to the studio with me every day. They are hilarious and very friendly and great to have around – a big hit with our customers!
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more
Yes! We also design letterpress greetings cards and are stocked in some beautiful shops around the UK. We also do personal stationery and we often find our customers come back to us after their weddings for birth announcements, business cards or anniversary gifts.
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
The letterpress print process itself provides the most inspiration for our products, we are also inspired by many other things from Japanese fabrics to 18th century engravings, Liberty prints to modern architecture.
