River Cottage has given millions of TV viewers a taste for great cooking since 1998, when Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall first landed on our screens. We think it’s fair to say that Hugh’s famous food ethos, passion for locally produced and sourced products and a commitment to improve the welfare and sustainability of animals and fish has affected us all for the better.

So how about making your wedding a real food fest and booking River Cottage as your venue for your big day?

Set amid rolling Devon hills, the breath-taking views across the valley make for a totally unique venue. Licensed for legal ceremonies, River Cottage HQ is the perfect place to celebrate your wedding day. Coupled with outstanding food, it will certainly be a wedding your guests will remember.The renovated barn, is large enough to seat 64 guests on two long banquet tables, 70 with a top table, fit for the splendid feast. In the evening with formalities over and any additional guests arriving, the tables are turned for the couple’s choice of live music or DJ to dance the night away to.Couples will also benefit from their own in-house wedding coordinator to help plan their perfect day. Tell us about your venue

Our 65 acre organic farm is tucked amongst rolling hills on the Dorset and Devon border and is the perfect setting for a rustic farm wedding. River Cottage HQ is yours exclusively for the day.

You can say ‘I do’ in front of your nearest and dearest in the famous farmhouse, or the beautifully restored Threshing barn if you intend to invite a crowd.Guests are welcome to wander the smallholding at their leisure; relax in our yurt, serve welcome drinks out in the walled garden, or even have your blessing amongst the sweet peas!

The River Cottage kitchen team are renowned for cooking up wonderful celebratory dinners, featuring the very best local produce. After a sumptuous meal it will be time to dance the night away in the barn…

Do you offer civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies?

Absolutely, everyone is welcome at River Cottage. Couples can get married in the famous farmhouse for a more intimate gathering, our threshing Barn or amongst the organic veggies in our Kitchen Garden!

Do couples & their wedding party have exclusive use of your venue?

Yes, the farm is exclusively yours for the day. This includes the famous Farmhouse, threshing Barn, Yurt, Kitchen Garden and the rest of our 65 acre farm! Smaller, more intimate weddings for up to 20 guests will have exclusive use of the Farmhouse.

Venue capacity – How many guests can attend the day ceremony, if applicable, wedding breakfast & the evening reception?

The maximum capacity for larger weddings during the ceremony and wedding breakfast is 70 during November-March and 100 during April-October. Up to 120 for the evening reception.

Tell us just a little about any wedding packages you offer

We currently offer a Winter Wedding package during November-March which includes welcome drink, canapes, a seasonal two course meal, half bottle of house wine, toast drink, evening food, coffee and petit fours. 20% discount on bar drinks if ordered in advance. Includes ceremony fee but not the registrar fee.

Do you have in-house catering, or preferred suppliers or are couples free to choose their own caterers?

At River Cottage food is at the heart of what we do and what we love and all catering is provided by our expert in-house chefs. Wedding couples will get the opportunity to design their perfect wedding menu based on seasonal, locally sourced and fresh produce.

Can couples supply their own alcohol for the evening? Is there a corkage fee?

As well as our own fantastic local drinks selection couples can also bring their own for a corkage fee.

Are couples completely free to choose their own wedding entertainment & do you have a specific sound system?

Couples can choose their own entertainment throughout the day with some advice on local musicians from your in-house wedding coordinator.

Do you offer accommodation on site? If so, for how many guests?

Yes. Spend your first morning as newly-weds waking up to far-reaching views across the spectacular Axe valley, enjoy the bustle of a new day on the farm and the smell of freshly baked bread wafting up the winding staircase of the 16th century famous farmhouse. For all new wedding bookings, accommodation for up to six guests is now included.

Do you have an in-house wedding co-ordinator?

Yes, our in-house wedding coordinator will help you to plan your perfect day and is on hand to provide advice on anything from local suppliers to the schedule of your wedding day in order to make the wedding planning process as stress-free as possible! The wedding coordinator will also be there on the day to make sure everything runs smoothly.

How far in advance can couples or their wedding stylist, florist etc have access to the venue in order to decorate it?

The team at River Cottage will decorate the venue for you on the morning of the wedding. All you need to do is drop off your decorations the day before and we’ll do the rest. If you’d prefer to decorate the venue yourself you can arrive the day before providing we don’t have any events on site.

Do you have gardens or an outdoor area for wedding photographs?

Our 65 acre organic farm is nestled in a valley on the Devon/Dorset border with rolling hills and stunning sun sets – a perfect back drop for wedding photos!

What’s your best advice to couples when choosing their perfect wedding venue?

Wedding couples should always focus on what matters to them most such as food, atmosphere etc. and how the venue matches their personalities in order to make the day as special and personal to them as possible. Always trust your gut instinct and where you feel the most inspired – this usually translates into a magical wedding day.

Any finally, what are your favourite moments from previous wedding you’ve been involved with?

Watching a bride get involved with the welly wanging in a field in their beautiful dress with a big smile on their face really captures the essence of a River Cottage wedding!
