Caked design and create the most beautiful bespoke cakes for weddings, celebrations and more. Specialising in naked or semi naked cakes, buttercream covered cakes and traditional fondant cakes, Claire at Caked offers totally bespoke designs and flavour combinations for every couple. No two of her cakes are ever the same.
We think that planning and designing your unique cake with your cake maker is such a fun and exciting part of your wedding planning.
At Caked, not only do you get to work with Claire on the type of cake you want, in terms of the design, colours and the overall vibe of your cake to tie in with your wedding theme, you also get to sample different cake flavours. So you know that come your big day, your cake will not only look awesome, but it will taste delicious.
Even if your favourite flavours aren’t on Claire’s extensive list, you can work together to create something totally unique and meaningful to you. How amazing is that? Over to Claire now to tell us more.
Tell us a little about yourself and your business
I’m Claire and I’m the owner of Caked. I specialise in bespoke wedding cakes and celebration cakes, as well as edible favours and dessert tables.
What motivated you to start your business?
I spent a few years working in digital media, but eventually found myself daydreaming about owning my own business and of course about cake! After a few courses in cake decorating and sugarcraft, I finally decided to bite the bullet and train full time at Le Cordon Bleu. Fast forward a couple of years and I’m now living the dream!
Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business
I love the variety of my work. Obviously there’s a lot of kitchen time (often spent dancing around in my apron to BBC 6 Music), either preparing orders or testing new cake flavours. But there’s also a lot of planning, designing and meetings with clients, which is one of my favourite parts. I have never created the same cake design twice because my couples are all so different, and I love that!
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
They can expect a completely personalised service. The whole process starts with a consultation. We’ll discuss their design, drawing on different parts of their wedding day, and of course it’s a great opportunity to try some of my most popular cake flavours.
I’ll then work on their designs until we come to a final version. Couples will also often ask me for little extras, like biscuit favours, macarons or even whole dessert tables. On the big day, their wedding cake will be hand-delivered and set-up by me, making sure everything is just right.
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
The wedding industry is made up of so many small businesses, and it’s passion that drives them. I think that’s what couples look for – passion for their wedding day. At Caked, I’m totally driven by producing beautiful and delicious cakes for my couples, and I feel that taking the time to really get to know them is so important.
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
There are so many! I still remember my first ever cake – a 3 tier buttercream covered cake decorated with fresh lavender, and the conception of my ever-popular Lemon & Lavender flavour. The stand out last year has to be the Game of Thrones inspired cake, complete with a sugar dragon on top. It was so much fun to make.
Receiving feedback from couples is one of the best parts though. Knowing you contributed to their perfect day makes me feel all gooey inside!
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more
Caked isn’t just for weddings! I create cakes and sweet treats for birthdays, anniversaries (lots of 1st anniversaries for my couples!), afternoon tea, corporate clients, even the odd funeral – wherever there’s a need for cake I can help!
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
Everything inspires me! I see potential cake designs in fashion, buildings, nature, even wallpaper!
