Steampunk Wedding Shoot at Llanthony Secunda Priory

by Michelle

Wow, what a fantastical wedding photo shoot we have for you today. This steampunk inspired shoot on location at Llanthony Secunda Priory nails the steampunk vibe to perfection along with showcasing a number of super talented suppliers.

Combining science fiction with emerging technologies of the Victorian era a steampunk wedding is such a fabulous way to have fun with fashion, accessories galore and of course your decor, all captured beautifully here by Caz Holbrook Photography.

The venue, Llanthony Secunda Priory lends itself so well to the shoot; it’s unique quirkiness being such a fitting backdrop for the extraordinary creativity of all the suppliers involved, and actually, we think you’ll agree that it looks less like a shoot and more like a joyous celebration that we all want to go and join wait until you see more of our favourite images in a moment.

Before we pass you onto Kate at Llanthony Secunda, we must just give a special shout out to blog buddy Jan Knibbs who you’ll remember runs Atelier 19 and who created these amazing bridal outfits, for offering us this shoot and we’d also like to wish Jan every continued success growing her business and moving to new premises in the Autumn, we can’t wait to catch up with her just as soon as she’s settled in. Right then, it’s time to pass you over to the lovely Kate to tell us more about the shoot.

What was the inspiration for the shoot?

Llanthony Secunda Priory – the location for the shoot – is a medieval priory with lots of quirky features and a very unique location in the centre of Gloucester Docks. The venue is taking its first steps into the wedding market and wanted to produce some wedding imagery with a twist.

Jane from Create Ceremonies, introduced the idea of organising a Steampunk Photoshoot. We asked local photographer Caz Holbrook to capture the day.

Where and when did the shoot take place? Can you tell us anything further about the location?

Llanthony Secunda Priory is a medieval priory in a city-centre setting which is truly out of the ordinary. With stunning medieval ruins, and beautifully restored listed buildings set within 5 acres of peaceful grounds – Llanthony Priory is a unique and special place.

The shoot took place on the 7th June 2019 which turned out to be a very wet and windy day. The original plan had  been to host an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party in the grounds under an ancient tree, however some last minute replanning had to be done when the clouds decided to open.

Describe the style of the shoot. Was there a specific theme?

The theme for the shoot was Steampunk with an Alice in Wonderland tea party. We invited the local steampunk community to attend as both a way of engaging with our local audience but also to ensure that the images were authentic. The guests outdid themselves and arrived in some amazing outfits.    We also invited designer Jan Knibbs from Atelier 19 and milliner Gemma Sangwine to provide alternative bridal outfits. Jan brought three vintage dresses she had upcycled and embellished ….

And Gemma brought matching headwear. The flowers were provided by the Fabulous Florist …..

And the amazing cake by Kiss Me Cake.

What was the main focus of the shoot? What were you promoting?

The aim of the shoot was to create some beautiful imagery that everyone involved could use to promote their individual services. Everyone involved gave their time free of charge and it really was a team effort both in the planning and on the day.

What were the highlights from the shoot?

There were so many highlights on the day, the atmosphere was lovely. Despite it being dreadful weather, everyone arrived with a smile and worked as a team to ensure that we achieved some great shots.
