Wonderland Toppers make the cutest wedding cake toppers that you’ve probably ever seen. From action superheros to movie characters, or you can even have truly personal toppers crafted based on your interests and your individual wedding looks.
Then once your big day is over, these awesome toppers will make such a magical momento of your big day. We’ll pass you straight over to Sarah now to tell you more.
Tell us a little about your business
My business is called Wonderland Toppers and I make handmade wedding cake toppers, most often based on the couples’ favourite movie stars or superheroes but also mini versions of themselves and their families and pets. I work from a studio in my loft at home although this summer it was too hot to work up there so I ended up taking over the kitchen!
How do you make your cake toppers?
The toppers start their journey as a wooden peg doll and a wooden door knob of all things, they are put together, modelled with clay and hand painted.
Can couples have any characters they want?
Couples can order pretty much any combination of characters. If it’s a character I haven’t done before I will often look at the Funko pop characters for inspiration. Again if it’s a character I have not done before I will sketch out my ideas for the couple to approve and tweak before I start making.
How can couples order from you?
What’s the average lead time from placing an order through to delivery?
Due to the nature of the business I don’t have a specific lead time as such. I am taking orders up to 2021 right now. As a minimum I like to allow a week for making and depending on where and how they are being shipped between 2 days and a month for shipping.
Do you ship your cake toppers internationally?
I ship worldwide, via the postal service or UPS if it’s a last minute order.
What are your favourite or most unusual cake toppers you’ve created?
I’m a massive fan of Disney and Harry Potter so any orders based around them are always favourites. I loved the “UP” house I did this summer.
Being a child of the 80’s I also particularly like making pets dressed as Star Wars characters, Marty McFly and anything 80’s inspired.
The most unusual one I have been asked to make was Han Solo and Princess Leia with sugar skull face paint. And the Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson (not for a wedding, just because he loved them)
Do you create cake toppers for any other events/celebrations?
My son asked me to make a Greatest Showman cake for his birthday in March with a PT Barnum on it. I put a picture of the cake on my social media and people went crazy for it. I have since made a number of Barnum figures as well as Anne and the bearded lady also from the film for birthday cakes.
Obviously most people wouldn’t think of spending so much money on figures for a birthday cake but the Greatest Showman has been such a huge hit this year and brought me some unexpected business.
And finally, what are your plans for the next 12 months?
Over the next 12 months I hope to take Wonderland Toppers even further. I have plenty of new and interesting toppers to make and I also have some new ideas I’d like to try out if I get time…watch this space!
