So whether you’re looking to order just your personal wedding flowers for an intimate gathering, or you’re planning to go all out with a dramatic venue makeover, including floral archways and chandlers and more, your blooms will look absolutely fabulous and will have been designed and created with the same care and attention to detail. Over to Charlotte and Sorcha now to tell us more about their thriving business.

Tell us a little about yourself and your business

Herbert & Isles is run and owned by myself Charlotte (The Isles) and Sorcha (The Herbert). We are studio based Floral Designers, specialising in Weddings and Events. We are based near Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire but travel far and wide for weddings!

What motivated you to start your business?

Sorcha and I started up Herbert & Isles in 2015 after working together in a florist shop for a few years. We loved creating and designing weddings together and one day just thought ‘we can do this for ourselves!’ So, our business was born!

We love following a couple through the entire process, from first meeting them and talking through their ideas to actually seeing them on the day and creating their floral designs! We adore what we do and we think that passion shows with our choice of blooms and designs.

Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business

The end of our week tends to be the busiest, as most people get married at weekends, even though we have been seeing more couples marry during the week. We will buy the flowers for weddings up to a week before so they are open and looking their most beautiful for the big day! Mid-week we are conditioning and prepping all of the blooms while also meeting couples, visiting venues, writing up proposals, blogging, doing lots of social media and day-to-day running of a business.

Then at the weekend (or on wedding days!) it’s show time!! We will be up at the crack of dawn finishing off designs and then setting up and delivering the flowers for the big day. This is one of our favourite parts, seeing it all come together and seeing the couple on the day before they get married is really exciting!

If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?

It all depends on what a couple go for. If they are just after bridal bouquets and buttonholes or they want a complete venue make over with archways, floral chandlers and more! However big or small a wedding is our couples all get the same-beautiful blooms, unusual designs and a friendly service!

How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?

I would take a look at photos of past weddings, follow their social media to get a feel of what they do. Wedding’s are very personal so if you think a company has what you want in your wedding your half way there already! I also thinking meeting with the company and the people who you will be dealing with will give a good indication if they will be the right fit for your wedding.

What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?

Our favourite moments tend to be when the bride sees her wedding bouquet. It’s an emotional day so there can be a few tears (of joy!) but when they see their flowers and love them it makes all the long hours and early starts worth it!

Another favourite moment is if we get to set the flowers up the day before (normally this happens if we can get into a venue early and the couple are having large installations) and watching the couple see the flowers for the first time.

They are so excited for their day and I think having the flowers and decorations up mean they are one step closer to it so its normally a really happy and exciting moment and one we get to share with them.

The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more

We also teach floristry with our regular workshops for anyone who wants to get creative, they are also perfect for a Hen Do and a good way to break the ice! We teach anything from handtied bouquets, flower crowns and Christmas wreaths! We also offer local bouquet deliveries.

What have you got planned for the next 12 months?

The next 12 months will be spent growing our business! We have a few different ideas in the process which we will be working on but until then its wedding flower madness!

And finally, what or who inspires you and why?

The flowers themselves inspire us! Each year there are always new blooms, new varieties coming through and for us it’s exciting to see the seasons change and the new flowers that come along with it.
