Spring weddings always look fabulous especially when you head outdoors. Everything is bursting with spring green optimism with so many bushes and trees laden with spring blossom and adding delightful pops of colour.
We’re so pleased then to bring you this shoot organised by the super talented Clare at Petal & Bird whose paper flower bouquets are always really popular when we feature them on the blog.
The focus of this shoot was to use a glorious garden as a backdrop to illustrate how two quite different looks can work equally well in the same setting. This also echos our ethos here at Girl Gets Wed, where we always encourage you to have the wedding you want rather than the wedding you feel you should have. Stay true to your style. And we think this shoot illustrates perfectly that whether you’re a boho babe or you prefer to glam things up, this fabulous spring garden accommodates both looks beautifully.
As always, the shoot brought together so many talented suppliers who are all credited below with swoon worthy images captured by Charleigh at Charleigh Victoria Photography. Over to Clare now to tell us more.
What was the inspiration for the shoot?
The inspiration behind the shoot was to showcase a range of local talented suppliers and their creative work. We wanted the shoot to highlight the collaborative work of small local businesses coming together to create something beautiful.
We took inspiration from the need for slightly different styles and looks that we find we are frequently asked for by brides. It led us to throw a different twist into the shoot to draw from alternative ideas whilst still keeping the theme of a beautiful day.
Where and when did the shoot take place? Can you tell us anything further about the location?
The shoot took place on Good Friday and we were treated to gloriously sunny weather.
The location was gifted to us to use by the photographers in-laws. It was an absolutely beautiful garden at their home in Felpham; a lovely village within West Sussex. The garden was full of stunning plants and blossoming trees, winding paths with contrasting colours and areas which we used to achieve the two different bridal styles.
The beautiful but simple garden location was the perfect setting to showcase the different elements of the shoot. We wanted to show was what possible for a garden wedding setting, providing an intimate space to celebrate a couple’s special day.
Describe the style of the shoot. Was there a specific theme?
The two dresses that were chosen from the lovely collection at Bijoux Bridal Boutique took us in the direction of two different themes. A relaxed Boho, festival style with the beautiful detailing on the lace dress with low back….
contrasting with a more formal and glamourous theme inspired by the stunning beaded dress with sweet heart neckline.
Hair and makeup was beautifully created on the day and brought the two looks alive; with the smoky eyes and deep red lip adding drama to the ‘garden glamour bride’ modelled by Charlotte. This look was created by Kiri MUA who worked effortlessly to enhance the natural beauty of the models….
combined with a stunning structured up do by Sam Orwell Bridal Hair the look was finished off with a bespoke French beaded bridal headpiece hand made by Isabella Josie Millinery.
For the second look, Kiri MUA created a natural, sun bronzed makeup for our boho bridal model Daisy Tonge, with a relaxed festival themed multi braided hair style created by Sam Orwell that was completed with a scattering of paper roses made by Clare at Petal & Bird to match the paper wedding flowers.
The styling of the shoot made use of props from Love From Hollie. Hollie set up a stunning prosecco cart in a shady spot surrounded by wild forget –me- nots and grasses ready for the guests to ‘pimp their prosecco’. Dressed with hand painted perspex signage ….
together with blueberries and strawberries ready to add to the chilled fizz. Others ideas we had were to style the cart as a Gin bar or cream tea station. So many possibilities.
Hollie’s handcrafted balloon art added a photo opportunity for guests to create their own memories capturing their image within the balloon heart. We used this area to capture the Bride and her Bridesmaid enjoying the day, celebrating together.
Another key aspect of the photoshoot was to include the Mother of the Bride. Capturing the moments between a bride and her mother; cutting the cake, celebrating with a glass of fizz and taking a quiet moment together to reflect on the day and celebrate with one another. The Mother of the Bride is often left out of the wedding day with the Father of the Bride traditionally given the special duties of walking the bride down the aisle and giving a speech, so we wanted to highlight the Mother’s role and remind her she is not forgotten.
In our shoot the Mother of the Bride can be seen wearing a bespoke ivory cocktail hat with dusky pink roses and curled feathers, handcrafted by Isabella Josie Millinery. Isabella creates a beautiful range of bespoke hats, fascinators and head wear and this piece completed the Mother of the Bride’s look working seamlessly between the two styles of the shoot.
The garden and beautiful weather we had during the shoot really helped to bring the two styles together. We wanted to show the versatility of the different themes being styled in the same location. Charleigh Victoria Photography used the natural light, colours and styling within the stunning garden to capture the different themes and when combined with her editing, showed beautifully what can be achieved at the same time and place.
What was the main focus of the shoot? What were you promoting?
The main focus of the shoot was to highlight the versatility of the talented suppliers that collaborated together and to showcase the high-quality personal service we all offer. We wanted to show that we are small local businesses who are keen to promote and support each other to develop and grow.
Two fabulous three-tiered cakes were created by Jen at Crafted Cakes and Bakes: a stunningly simple semi-naked cake with butter cream icing, delicately decorated with gold leaf and paper flowers by Petal & Bird.
Contrasting this with the structured white and gold iced cake with gold painted details and sugar flower work providing a sense of drama for the second cake.
The paper flowers that featured in the photoshoot were created by Clare from Petal & Bird adding an alternative element to the shoot. All the paper flowers and foliage were created by hand providing the bride and her bridesmaid with bespoke, lasting flowers to treasure and then remember the day by.
Working with a blue and white colour palette for the boho theme Clare created a light and airy feel that featured paper peonies, roses and love-in-a-mist in the bride’s bouquet and little paper roses for hair flowers. Completing the blue collection is a paper flower crown and small bouquet for the bridesmaid.
The flowers created for the garden glamour looked worked beautifully with the deep red lipstick look chosen by Kiri MUA showing a more structured and luxurious style to the flowers with gold detailing, deep burgundy paper dahlias combined with pale peach paper roses.
Petal & Bird can create paper flowers to your requirements working with different themes and colour palettes. Clare also specialises in recreating bridal bouquets which are a lovely gift for a first ‘paper’ wedding anniversary allowing you to forever remember your wedding flowers if you chose to have real flowers on your wedding day.
What were the highlights from the shoot?
One of the main highlights from the shoot was meeting great like-minded people who are all supportive of one another’s ideas. Seeing everyone’s talents come together on the day captured beautifully by Charleigh Victoria Photography.
The fantastic weather we were graced with along with cake tasting and prosecco at the end definitely ended the photo shoot on a high!
