Helen and Andy’s Plymouth wedding was a fun and relaxed day filled with fantastic personal touches. These included an awesome Lego table plan assembled by the groom with Lego characters reflecting everyone’s personalities, passions and favourite characters.
Then there was the super cute cake topper. It was a lovely nod to the couple’s love of both Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter.
Even the table names reflected the couple’s passions. With Helen’s zoo keeping career and Andrew’s aim of becoming a palaeontologist it was so fitting that each table was given the name of a different primate or dinosaur.

What was the style of your wedding?
How did you make your day feel really personal to you as a couple?
Favourite colours – Green and purple. Reflected throughout floral arrangements, bridesmaid dresses and table decorations, plus exterior lights in the venue.
Table names reflected passions – Helen is a zookeeper with specialism in primates, and Andrew‘s aim is to be a palaeontologist. Table names were given names of different primates and dinosaurs, with illustrator friends and family members providing beautiful images of the animals.
Table plan – Lego model of the Guildhall constructed by groom, with guests assigned individual Lego characters reflecting their personalities/ professions/ favourite characters/ hobbies.
Toast drink – Neither of us are fans of champagne or sparkling wines, so as cider fans we selected Thatcher’s Family Reserve Sparkling cider as our toasting drink
We’re huge fans of Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings so we made 2 outlines of famous trees from the two series (Hogwarts’ Whomping Willow and Gondor’s White tree) along with green and purple ink pads for guests to adorn the trees with thumb prints as leaves, and write personal messages.
Guest favours- A donation was given to Cancer Research and guests received a pinbadge in reflection of this. This is a very important charity for us both, having lost 3 grandparents to cancer between us.
The groom’s mum is a great jam-maker, and made a small jar of jam for each guest.
Wedding cake topper – To reflect our love of LOTR and Harry Potter our chosen wedding figures were Aragorn and a ginger Hufflepuff bride (Helen’s Hogwarts house is Hufflepuff).
How did you decide on your venue?
It blew us away with the natural light, the building’s long and important history, and the space available to us for activities, games and socialising. The cells downstairs lent themselves perfectly for large garden-style games such as Kerplunk, ring-toss and giant Jenga.
