Combining these elements along with her unique designs and elegant figure flattering silhouettes, Sanyukta’s creations are exquisite and ethical in equal measure, a concept we fully endorse and we know you will too.
Over to Sanyukta now who recently gave us a fascinating insight into her business.
Tell us a little about yourself and your business?
I am Sanyukta, and I have my own Bridal label called Sanyukta Shrestha which has its flagship boutique in Fulham.
My business is based around the ethos of beauty with a conscience. I have a deep care and love for the environment, and my business is inspired and driven by the desire to create luxury gowns, whilst preserving the natural beauty of the world. Our beautiful wedding and evening gowns are made in my home country of Nepal, each gown is handwoven from start to finish and uses the most luxurious, sustainable and environmentally friendly materials.
My desire was always to bring out the inner beauty within every woman and to do that on the biggest, most important day of a woman’s life is truly fulfilling for me. I think specializing in bridal was a natural progression in terms of my passions and also my career in general.
In 2011, after graduating from The London College of Fashion and working within the Bridal industry, I was able to gain enough experience to establish my own bridal label. It makes me so happy that my label has received global praise for my commitment towards a sustainable approach to fashion, it encourages me to continue looking for new materials and sustainable ways of producing garments.
What motivated you to start your business?
My desire to make a sustainable, luxury bridal brand led me to establish my own business. I use materials which are natural and eco-friendly such as hemp silk and bamboo which is not common within the bridal industry.
By creating my own business I was able to ensure that I could source materials from only Fairtrade manufactures and work with social organisations in Nepal to provide jobs for marginalised women whilst keeping their artisan craft alive.
Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business
Our activities vary from day to day. We have brides coming in for appointments and fittings and so days can be filled with finding the perfect dress for a bride and communicating with our producers in Nepal to create the dress of any bride’s dream.
The weekends and evenings are especially very busy for us and our brides, but we manage to keep everything calm to ensure the best experience for our clients. Depending on award season we have celebrity fitting for the red carpets which is always very exciting.
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
I pride myself on a first class experience when a bride comes to me. I work alongside brides to ensure that they can have the wedding dress of their dreams. I am always available to my clients and my team work alongside me to ensure that every bride is well looked after and comfortable in her decision to wear a Sanyukta Shrestha gown whilst celebrating their magical day.
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
I encourage all couples and brides-to-be to go into every consultation with an open mind. When a bride is choosing a designer she has to feel secure that her personality will be reflected in her dream dress. This is how a bride knows that she has found the right designer, when she is comfortable that the dress she wears on her magical day makes her feel magical.
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
I love the moment when a bride finds her dream gown. The brides are my inspiration, and to be able to turn their dream into a reality is my passion. When brides send wedding photos and I can see the actual happiness of the bride wearing my dress, this really fills me with joy.
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more
We also have an evening wear and flower girl collection which is a sort of sister collection to my bridal collections. The same services are offered to our brides-to-be and to our customers who are looking for an evening gown or little flower girl dresses.
My designs are very versatile and we can alter gowns after the wedding to allow brides to re-wear their wedding gown again in the future.
What have you got planned for the next 12 months?
We have a very exciting and busy next 12 months. Our new collection is to be released very soon which is very exciting. We are also up for two prestigious ‘UK WEDDING AWARDS 2018’- BEST BRIDAL BOUTIQUE’ & ‘WEDDING DRESS OF THE YEAR’ categories this year and so we shall see what happens with that. We are also experimenting with new, eco-friendly materials and seeing the effects from these materials.
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
My dreams often inspire my designs, I’m such a vivid dreamer and sometimes I can wake up from a dream at 3am and start sketching straight away. Nature and travel influences me as well, I’ve been lucky enough to travel this amazing planet. My brides are a huge part of my inspiration too. Each bride is unique and the ability to capture their personality and dreams into a dress drives me to create new designs constantly.
