Tell us a little about yourself and your business

I am a very proud Brummie born and bred; obsessed with fashion and clothing! As a fashion retail buyer I’ve spent the the last 10 years travelling around the world sourcing fabrics and buying beautiful dresses. Fern & Foxglove Bridal is for the individual, creative, cool girl who wants something different for her wedding day.

We have created a haven for bridal fashion lovers in the creative hub of Birmingham in the Custard Factory. Our collection features exclusive designers from around the world.

What motivated you to start your business

My sister had asked for help in getting a dress for her wedding she couldn’t find what she was looking for in the Midlands and this sparked the idea for Fern & Foxglove Bridal.

I wanted to provide a different customer experience, bringing in new and interesting fashion designers for the creative, fashionable Midlands folk (and beyond). My buying career specialised in dresses so I have always had a great affinity with them and the holy grail of dresses in my opinion is the wedding dress.

Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business

We spend a lot of time in all things Bridal here at Fern & Foxglove looking at new designers, new fabrics and accessories that we can recommend to our brides.

If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?

You can enjoy a private appointment at our botanical garden studio set back with vintage velvet style furniture overlooking the cool graffiti art back drop of the custard factory.  Our brides have 1.5 hours appointment with their bridal gang so they can try on as many or as little dresses as they like.

We talk about the types of styles, fabrics and colours they like as we can cater for a bespoke element to the styles we hold. You can expect a lovely, warm atmosphere with friendly advice to complete your big day.

How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?

I think its important to go with companies who you don’t feel like you’ve been pushed into making decisions and you feel comfortable with. They should be happy to give advice which is in the interest of the customer not just their business.

What are your favourite moments of weddings you have been involved with?

My fave moment was with a bride who had been looking for a dress for 6 months and couldn’t find anything she liked as everything was very traditional. Her mum had stopped joining her on appointments after going on so many; so she came on her own.

When she tried her dress she was so happy and relieved that she had found the one she wanted. We also have brides come from all over the UK to try our dresses as our designers are exclusive to us.

The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more

We have a hand picked vintage sequin glamour range from Texas in America that can be used for any party occasion.

What have you got planned in the next 12 months?

We are attending the Barcelona Bridal Fashion week to meet our designers and choose our new range in the next couple of months. We will also be on the lookout for any emerging new designers in bridal that offer something original and fashionable for our customers.

And finally, what or who inspires you and why?

I’m inspired by businesses who strive to do something new and brave in their market to pave the way for a new future. Bridal has been stuck in tradition for a long time but now we are dictating our day, our way!
