The Great Tythe Barn is a simply stunning wedding venue nestled in the heart of rural Gloucestershire. The 16th century Tythe Barn has been thoughtfully restored retaining it’s charming period features and combining these with all the modern facilities you would expect in a luxury wedding venue.
The barn can easily accommodate larger wedding parties of up to 350, whilst the estate’s manor house is just perfect for smaller more intimate weddings.
With delicious catering options ranging from a romantic candle lit wedding breakfast in the barn festooned with fairy lights – so gorgeous as day turns to evening, to a relaxed informal BBQ in the gardens, there’s literally something for all your guests to enjoy. On site accommodation for up to 90 guests is such a wonderful bonus, and a lovely way to end a memorable day in comfort and style. Over to the team at The Great Tythe Barn now to tell us more.
Tell us about your venue
The Great Tythe Barn is a gorgeous 16th century, grade II listed building tucked away in the quintessential English market town of Tetbury. Nestled within 200 acres, and accessed by a tree-lined driveway, The Great Tythe Barn is secluded and picturesque, yet boasts accommodation to sleep up to 90 guests. Originally a dairy farm, our converted barn has been sympathetically brought into the 21st century, yet retains many of the original features.
Do you offer civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies?
Whilst we welcome couples who are looking to get married in a church before coming back to the Barn for their reception, we also have 5 spaces that are licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships, should couples wish to get married on site with us. We love seeing all the different ceremonies we have had here; we’ve also had religious blessings and humanist ceremonies in the Barn.
Do couples & their wedding party have exclusive use of your venue?
We don’t believe in holding more than one wedding each day, so when couples book their date with us, they have exclusive use of the Barn and the lawns on the day of their wedding. We are unable to guarantee exclusive of the whole site as there may be some other wedding guests staying with us, however all of our guests are always respectful of any weddings taking place on site.
Venue capacity – How many guests can attend the day ceremony, if applicable, wedding breakfast & the evening reception?
The maximum number of guests we can accommodate in the Barn for a ceremony and wedding breakfast is 200 guests. For the evening reception, we hold up to 350 guests.
Tell us just a little about any wedding packages you offer
Just like a personal style or theme, each couple have their own wedding budget. We want every couple to have the wedding of their dreams, no matter what the budget. With this in mind, we offer three wedding packages, our Winter Wedding Package; our Midweek Package; and our Early Midweek Saver, alongside our standard Barn Hire so there’s something to suit every couple.
Do you have in-house catering, or preferred suppliers or are couples free to choose their own caterers?
We work with 3 fantastic catering companies, and our couples are free to choose any one of the three for their wedding. Our caterers are on hand to create bespoke menus for our couples that includes canapes, the wedding breakfast, as well as evening catering.
Can couples supply their own alcohol for the evening? Is there a corkage fee?
Our corkage option is definitely the most popular choice for our couples. Our corkage allows couples to supply the fizz for their drinks reception and toast, and the wine for their wedding breakfast. Corkage runs until the end of the meal / end of speeches, after which our bar is open for guests to use. We run and stock the bar ourselves, so if couples would like additional drinks for their reception, such as beers or Pimms, these can be bought through us.
Are couples completely free to choose their own wedding entertainment & do you have a specific sound system?
We have our very own PA system in the Barn which is perfect for music during the ceremony (unless couples would prefer live music), the drinks reception, and the wedding breakfast. For the evening entertainment, we have a list of recommended suppliers on our website, however couples aren’t restricted to this list. Music for the evening is a very personal choice and so couples are welcome to book whichever band or DJ they would like.
Do you offer accommodation on site? If so, for how many guests?
Couples often have family travelling a distance to attend the wedding, so having accommodation on site is a great bonus for all our couples! We can sleep up to 90 guests on site in a variety of accommodation options, including 10 self-catering cottages, 12 B&B rooms, and our gorgeous Tythe House; an 18th century manor house that sleeps 16 adults.
Do you have an in-house wedding co-ordinator?
We have two full time Wedding and Event Coordinators on hand to help our couples as much as they need. We are always at the end of a phone or email for any queries, and we are here to advise our couples all the way along, right up to the day itself, where we here to assist with guests, and guide the couple into their registrar meetings and into their ceremony.
How far in advance can couples or their wedding stylist, florist etc have access to the venue in order to decorate it?
Couples have access from 9am on the day of their wedding, giving themselves and suppliers lots of time to set up before the wedding begins.
Do you have gardens or an outdoor area for wedding photographs?
Outside of the Barn, we have our main drinks reception lawn, which is bordered by beautiful stone walls, trees, and flowers. We also have a 2nd lawn adjacent to this, which is ideal for beautiful garden photos. For couples who have hired the Tythe House, there are some beautiful gardens outside the House. If couples are looking for more rustic, countryside pictures, photographers often take couples into the field and footpath next to the Barn – there really is something for everyone!
What’s your best advice to couples when choosing their perfect wedding venue?
When planning a wedding, there are a lot of things to think about, and even choosing your wedding venue can become overwhelming. The best advice we can give couples looking for the perfect venue would be to narrow down your choices before you start viewings.
Looking around lots of venues can mean you lose focus on what you really love. Select a few venues that are your absolute favourite, and if they aren’t what you were thinking, you can book a viewing with your next favourites! And as everyone will advise during the planning process, take a deep breath and don’t stress! Wedding coordinators are here to help you every step of the way.
Any finally, what are your favourite moments from previous wedding you’ve been involved with?
I think of our favourite moments, it would have to be a toss-up between two. One of our favourites is the moment just before the Bride walks down the aisle. The bridesmaids have made their way down already and for a minute, it’s just the Bride and her dad. All the planning and all the nerves have led up to that moment, and Brides have this serene certainty about them the moment they take that first step, like all the nerves wash away.
Our other favourite is definitely at the end of the ceremony, as the couple walks back up the aisle as newlyweds. The scary bit is over, and you can see that they are much more relaxed, and super excited for the rest of the day!
