Tell us a little about yourself and your business
I’m an award-winning photographer based in London and I’m all about capturing joyful celebrations across the UK and worldwide. I wasn’t born with a camera in my hand and I had no idea that I’d end up doing this for a living. I basically fell in love with photography after meeting my husband Pete. He was a keen photographer who always took a camera everywhere, so I thought I’d get my own camera and join in.
A while later a friend asked me to photograph their wedding and it snowballed from there. I’ve been shooting weddings for over six years now and I’ve worked with over two hundred couples, across the UK and in locations as far away as Tobago.
In 2016 I was named one of New York based Rangefinder Magazine’s 30 Rising Stars of worldwide wedding photography and I’ve even started my own wedding photography festival. I love photographing laid back weddings for couples who are planning weddings that truly reflect them as people.
What Motivated you to start your business?
I really loved photographing my first ever wedding and from there I decided I wanted to get more experience as a wedding photographer, before starting my own business.
Before I was a photographer I worked in local government, developing policies and procedures and writing service delivery plans, so the business side and providing a brilliant service to my couples has always been a big priority for me.
Around a year after setting my business up I quit my day job as a social housing manager and I haven’t looked back.
Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business
Days are really varied, depending whether I’m shooting or doing office stuff. A typical day will involve responding to emails, doing various bit of office admin, implementing my marketing plan, going over the plan for upcoming shoots, writing blog posts, sharing my work on social media or editing images from previous shoots.
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
It’s so, so important to me that I provide a service that helps my couples to navigate their wedding planning process. I want our relationship to be easy and fun, so that they have the best possible experience of working with me. If you book me as your photographer you’ll be getting an experienced, creative, award winning photographer who’ll do what ever I can to make sure you have an amazing wedding.
My approach on the day is mostly documentary. Without fail at every wedding someone asks me how I know the couple, which is testament (I think!) to my ability to blend in and capture your day unobtrusively.
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
Go with your gut, but only after you’ve done the research! Photography is a little different than a lot of other services, as your photographer will be with you all day so feeling comfortable with them is hugely important. I’d suggest you find a few photographers whose work you love and then have a chat with each of them to see who’s a good fit for the way you see things working on the day.
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
There was a live wrestling match at a recent wedding I photographed, which was fun! Truly though some of my favourite moments are when me and my couple sneak away for a few pictures and I get to capture them just being themselves.
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more
I have recently started offering documentary family shoots, which I love. I hang out with a family for a day or half a day just capturing their daily life. It’s really nice to be able to make a beautiful record of the ordinary moments a family experiences.
As mentioned before I run my own festival photographers and I also speak at other events, conferences and workshops.
What have you got planned for the next 12 months?
My busy wedding season has just started, so that’s my focus for the next six months and then I’ll be back into planning SNAP Photography Festival 2019!
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
I am always hugely inspired by people overcoming adversity. For example a bride I recently photographed had overcome Cancer and the wedding was such a wonderful celebration of life. When photographing weddings you photograph all of human existence and it can be pretty humbling.
