Tell us a little about yourself and your business
I graduated in 2014 from University for the Creative Arts having studied Silversmithing and Jewellery Design. In my final year I began to focus on Bridal accessories for my graduate collection, and wanted to somehow incorporate my first love of painting into another aspect of accessories, from here Elizabeth Rose was created.
The design objective of Elizabeth Rose is to create a brides dream accessories for their big day, whether it is a hand painted jacket, wedding shoes designed to match their bouquet or personalised clutch bags for their bridesmaids.
What motivated you to start your business?
Whilst working in my day job as an engagement and wedding ring designer I had the opportunity to talk to a lot of brides about their wedding planning, and how they found it. A subject that kept popping up was their difficulty in finding exciting and unique wedding shoes that weren’t like others they have seen many times over.
Personalisation is such a special touch when wedding planning, and my lightbulb moment was looking through my silk printing from studying textiles at college. I thought that painting on satin shoes and personalising the design to match a bouquet, or wedding theme, would contribute well to the wedding market and give brides, bridesmaids, and mothers of the bride/groom an opportunity to add an extra special finishing touch to the wedding day.
Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business
My day begins with a walk to my design studio in North London, if I have any appointments that day I prepare the sketches and imagery ready for the client to arrive. Then its time to tackle the inbox and the enquiries we have received over a cup of coffee, this can involve sketching up some designs, or sending over images of clean shoes, jackets or bags from our catalogue for the client to review.
Once the admin box is ticked on the to-do list I begin painting the current orders in production, which is always my absolute favourite part of my day! If I do finish up a design ready for client review I take photographs to send over via email or whatsapp, and await their feedback. Once I receive confirmation that they are happy with the design, I heat seal the piece to protect the design, and package them up for sending. When the studio day is done I tend to go swimming (perks of my studio being right next door to the pool) and then I finish up any final enquiries on my walk home.
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
Elizabeth Rose prides itself on excellent customer care which starts as soon as a client gets in touch, we begin by discussing what the bride has in mind for their shoe, jacket handbag style, whether they want heels, flats, black white pink (we have a huge catalogue of styles we can work with). We then discuss their design ideas, if we’re creating something based on their wedding theme, or wedding flowers, together with any extra details such as a flower or image that commemorates a loved one, their wedding date or even their beloved pet.
I then get sketching and send over some preliminary sketches for them to play around with, and amend in order to make them perfect. Once they are 100% happy with the design we ensure measurements are correct and away we go! Once the design is near finishing we send over images to ensure that the client is happy with the colour palettes, and placement, at this point they can request any final touches.
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
The first impression of a suppliers portfolio is always quite indicative of whether their style would work well with your wedding ideas, and your hopes for the day. A supplier will always have a signature style, and if you are inspired by their work then it is time to get in touch!
Once you are in contact with them, you will know for sure that they will be perfect for your wedding day, if communication is strong, and you feel confident and reassured that your chosen supplier will make the process as easy as possible, then you can be positive that they will be a great addition to creating the perfect wedding day for you.
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
I absolutely love discussing the clients vision, and their creativity is always limitless in creating a special piece that is perfect for them.
It is hard to think of just one design that sticks out most as all of them have been so sentimental and special, but it is certainly notable when a client wishes to include an animal of some sort, we have created designs with dragon flies that represent beloved grandparents, wren birds to represent the bride, and also the brides beloved cats.
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more
We offer jacket design services for all ages, and denim jackets for children prove very popular, especially when a whole family can twin!
We also create personalised pet portraits in canvas and cushion form, which always make for very special personalised gifts. The sky is truly the limit, so if it can be painted on and you want to create something extra special then all you need to do is get in touch!
What have you got planned for the next 12 months?
We are kept busy with the shoes, bags and have recently diversified into custom jackets, but we are also looking to incorporate a small jewellery line that brides and wedding guests can personalise for gifts.
I absolutely loved creating my graduate collection based on sentimental flowers, so I would want to draw upon this in order to create a small collection of headpieces, and fine jewellery pieces, that would in turn be the perfect something new, or bridesmaid gifts. So watch this space for that!
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
Flowers have always been my inspiration, when I was very young I would admire huge camellia bushes, and took that with me through my formal training in textiles design at college, and also jewellery design at university, flowers are never too far away from my work!
My clients are also my inspiration to design unique pieces, and I am always amazed at the unique ideas that they come up with, and their enthusiasm for their custom designs. Hearing their feedback inspires me to work hard to create their dream accessory that they will cherish forever.
