Do you offer civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies?
Yes we do.
Do couples & their wedding party have exclusive use of your venue?
No, we are a country house with 90 acres worth grounds and gardens that are open to the general public from the middle of March till the beginning of November. We make sure that all weddings are private, but we cannot guarantee exclusivity due to the grounds being open to the general public all year round, the house itself can be exclusive during the closed winter season (November – March).
Venue capacity – how many guests can attend the day ceremony, if applicable, wedding breakfast & the evening reception?
Our venue can offer intimate ceremonies of 5 up to larger parties of 200; these numbers are the same for the wedding breakfast and evening reception.
Tell us a little about any wedding packages you offer?
Because we have so many different venues within the house and grounds we like for the couple to be able to create their own package. We can offer each couple different venues to mix and match, a popular one would be a ceremony in our Picture Gallery and wedding breakfast with evening reception in our marquee, this can accommodate up to 200 guests.
For those who want a more intimate and rustic setting we have our boathouse (30 guests) which is situated on the banks of the River Tweed, this can be matched with an intimate dinner for 40 in our Dining room.
Then for an even more intimate setting we offer couples an elopement, which has the bride and groom climbing on board a small coble fishing boat on the River Tweed with 2 witnesses and the registrar or celebrant.
Do you have in-house catering or preferred suppliers or are couples free to choose their own caterers?
Yes we have in-house catering, we can do anything from a cold buffet to a 3 course meal and if the couple is wanting something a little lighter we can offer Afternoon Tea or an Al fresco barbeque. With our marquee there are options to have outside caterers of the couple’s own choice for the day, we can recommend or couples can source their own for the day.
Can couples supply their own alcohol for the evening? Is there a corkage fee?
Yes they can and we charge a small corkage fee.
Are couples completely free to choose their own wedding entertainment & do you have a specific sound system?
Yes couples are completely free to choose their own entertainment and no we don’t have any specific sound system.

Yes, this year we are launching our very own Glamping site. This will consist of 5 main units which include a 4 poster bed, log fire, en-suite bathrooms and decking area with barbecue.
There will also be access to up to 20 pop-up units for the couple’s guests to stay in, each unit can sleep 2 and a camping bed can be added for up to 2 children. We also have 2 self-catering apartments that can sleep 2 persons.
Do you have an in-house wedding planner?
Wedding co-ordination is included in the price and a wedding planner can be arranged at an additional cost.
How far in advance can couples or their wedding stylist, florist etc have access to the venue in order to decorate it?
Providing there isn’t a wedding the day before couples and their stylist can have access the day before their wedding.
Do you have gardens or an outdoor are for wedding photographs?
We have some stunning scenery around us which include the banks of the River Tweed which is perfect for any couple’s wedding photographs. Depending on the time of year and the Scottish weather, the couples can have images anywhere in the grounds and main rooms of the house.
What’s your best advice to couples when choosing their perfect wedding venue?
To go with your gut and make sure the day is based around what you both want. The venue is the most important part, and if you love it your guests will too.
And finally, what are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
My favourite moment from a Paxton house wedding is watching the bride and groom say ‘I do’ in our boathouse right along the riverside, nothing better than seeing their day come together so perfectly.
