Tell us a little about yourself and your business
Certainly! My name is Luci and I am the photographer for Luci Loves Weddings. I am based in north-west London but I love to visit new places for work. I have been told that my photography style is contemporary and non-formal whilst capturing the essential moments and details.
I opened my business last year after doing the odd bit of second-shooting but looking to really focus on promoting my work once my own wedding in May 2018 is out the way!
What motivated you to start your business
When I first started dating my fiance, it turned out that his father was an established wedding photographer! At the time, I was doing a lot of model photography so we both bonded through doing a skills swap. I showed him how to shoot models and he had me assist him on a few weddings that he photographed.
As a visual person, I liked to see how each wedding had their own unique qualities. These days, people are moving away from the traditional, conventional weddings and putting their own touches on to things. I moved to London with my fiance so I decided to start up on my own quite recently.
Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business
I actually have a regular day job so this is seasonal, part-time work for me. Whenever I have a booking, I always like to meet the couple before the big day for a chat about their wedding and do a pre-wedding shoot as part of the package. I like clients to get a feel for how I work and to get some nice natural, relaxed shots.
On the day itself, I usually arrive whilst the bride is having her hair and makeup done and build up a rapport with the rest of the bridal party. I find that way, family ans friends tend to relax around me which of course make better photos!
During the day itself, I take care to not be intrusive whilst looking around for special moments and getting all the shots I need. I generally take the couple away from their guests during their own formal shots, usually after some dinner when they feel more relaxed and not distracted by anybody else!
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
I offer three different packages to cater for all budgets or requirements. I offer a ceremony & formal shots package, a half day package and also a full day package. All of these include a pre-wedding shoot and a selection of edited photos are supplied on a USB stick in a fancy presentation box.
My turn around time is usually within three weeks with some teasers sent over during the first week.
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
I am currently planning my own wedding so I can answer this! Along with checking out reviews from real life couples, I would also say to always trust your instincts. I wanted to go with a certain catering company as they met all of my requirements but the communication was so poor that I didn’t feel confident. After a week, it was established that they were no longer catering but by then, I was having doubts on whether they would be reliable. Wedding suppliers should always be more than happy to answer questions in a timely fashion.
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
The zombie wedding particularly stands out for obvious reasons! All of the guests were dressed up and all little details were considered such as rings on severed fingers, blood punch fountain and a disemboweled torso cake! Another highlight for me was that the bride’s father had his head shaved during the speeches but it didn’t go down too well with his wife!
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more.
I do alt model photography alongside weddings so I am available for fashion/glamour shoots too which can make nice gifts for partners or just for a confidence boost!
What have you got planned for the next 12 months?
I have my own wedding in a few months which has been very fun to plan! It’s a black and red theme with a heavy metal reception! Our honeymoon is consist of a trip to the USA visiting San Francisco, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. It will be my first time in the States do I can’t wait! Towards the end of this year, I am planning to start attending wedding fairs and really making a go of wedding photography!
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
I am inspired by so many different things! I am always looking to see what other alternative photographers do whether it’s different angles or different ways of doing the formal shots. It’s important as a photographer to always be open minded or else you get stuck in a rut doing the same things over and over, particularly if you shoot at a regular venue!
