Wedding Works hire and sell such a fascinating and unique range of wedding supplies and accessories. You can purchase DIY wedding favours and stationery alongside such an interesting range of decorations to personalise your venue.
We love their items for hire too which includes some fabulous retro inspired pieces including bright red mini post boxes for your wedding cards and bunting in different lengths which would enhance both your outside space, whilst looking equally cheerful indoors.
Our absolute favourite items for hire just have to be the super cute Babycham glasses and the vintage gramophone. Just imagine what a glamorous touch these would add to your celebrations. Time to let Fran tell you more about her truly individual business.
Tell us a little about yourself and your business
We are an independent supplier and through our website, we hire and sell products to make the day fun and affordable. We source from lots of different suppliers and try to keep up with the new trends but ensure we still stock the basics. The most popular section is the Do it yourself section where we have stationary, favours and other ideas.
One of our favourite products is something we design with brides and grooms, the bespoke wedding favours. These can be made in whatever colour combination in different styles required and we fill with chocolates. Sometimes customers supply their own contents and labels to make each one different.
What motivated you to start your business?
Our daughter was married 8 years ago which made us realise brides, grooms and their families can find it very daunting trying to pull off what is the biggest party you will ever host.
Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business
We work from a stockroom at our home in Somerset overlooking the Bristol channel towards Wales. Our first job each day is to put the squirrel and bird food out, then switch the radio on & make a coffee before starting to check our emails for orders and enquiries. Because we have a wide range of wedding products for hire or to buy, including balloon displays, our priority is to make sure we can accommodate the date which is then pencilled in on our calendar.
In the case of specific balloon displays we ensure we have the design in stock and then put it to one side with the customers name. Any orders which need to be posted are then parcelled up and posted before midday. We pride ourselves in making sure whatever is shown on our website is in stock and available.
Then it is time for another coffee, by then the squirrels have arrived for their midday snack so we have a break and watch them. Then it’s back to work, paperwork, stock re-ordering, getting our balloon displays prepped and ready then making some of our bespoke favours.
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
Honesty and integrity is the bedrock of our business. We enjoy working with brides to ensure they get exactly what they need and want to make their day exactly as they picture it.
Because we are small, very friendly and in charge of our own business we can go the extra mile should we need to do so to ensure everything runs smoothly. BUT although we are flexible we aren’t a pushover, plus were too old to jump through hoops and can’t do handstands!
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
We meet most of our customers at local wedding fayres where there is a lot of information and ideas buzzing around the room. A good Wedding Business will take the time to listen to the engaged couples ideas, make suggestions from experience of what is affordable and achievable and then leave them to think and decide.
There is so much to choose from, different styles, different ideas and different budgets. No couple are the same so therefore no wedding is the same. So, brides and grooms and their families need to feel comfortable discussing ideas without being pressurised into making decisions.
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
Delivering a sweet table to a wedding, then watching the over excited bridegroom trying out the sweets before he set off to the wedding ceremony and his Mum telling him he was going to make himself ill if he ate too many. There he was in in his lovely wedding suit being treated like a small boy by his Mum. Priceless.
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more
Weddingworks is the younger sister business to our main business Partysmartys which is a party supplies website where we supply party products from baby showers to 100th birthday celebrations. We chose to set up a separate website because weddings are such a niche market.
What have you got planned for the next 12 months?
We want to expand out Do it Yourself range and help show that a wedding can be affordable on any budget
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation a small charity which has a big heart
