Tell us a little about yourself and your business
I would describe myself as a quirky, (yet highly organised) and creative designer. I am passionate about all aspects of design from colour and textures to different mediums of art.
I am a creative individual with a mean organised streak (which can be rare for creative people to have). I utilise these two strong parts of me to work well for the customer.Out of the Box is a bespoke wedding stationery service offered by my business Freefall Design. My passion is wedding stationery as I can be really creative and use many different materials, colours and textures. This enables me to provide my clients with really unusual, unique designs completely personal to them.
What motivated you to start your business?
I wanted to be my own boss, be in control of how I work, provide clients with high customer service standards and fully use my motivation and passion in my work ethos that I naturally possess. I created an outlet for my creativity and decided to combine this with my business brain.Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business
Fuelled by coffee and a love of outdoors, my day usually starts out with my Dog. I value this time outside as nature is my biggest inspiration.
Colours ever changing, unique shapes and a whole host of textures – its just wonderful. The rest of the day is spent creating designs, communicating with other wedding suppliers and client and indulging in my other passion, running.
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
A unique, quirky, bespoke design which they will adore. This will be delivered with exceptional customer service and attention to detail. I want my clients to enjoy their design journey with me, with the end result being a design that they can really shout about.
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
Looking at some examples of previous work is always a great start. It will give the couple an idea of what the business can provide. Checking out feedback from other clients is always helpful too.
Most importantly, I would recommend that the couple have a meeting/phone call initially to discuss ideas. This will determine if the business is the correct fit for the couple.
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
Getting the product back from the Printers, it’s always so exciting handling the hardcopies of the design.
Nailing the final design and seeing the look of delight on the couples faces when they receive the end product.
I love incorporating part of the big day in the invitations, for example a small sketch of the venue where the ceremony will be happening or the flowers of the day. I think it provides a nice personal touch to the invite.
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more
I am a qualified Graphic Designer and provide services such as corporate branding, logos, business cards, vehicle livery design to name but a few. I really enjoy this also but my real passion is wedding stationery. A similar theme can be found through all my designs, quirky creative and unique.
What have you got planned for 2017?
I will be aiming for small wedding fairs at the end if the year/start of next year.
I am in touch with numerous wedding venues and have become a preferred supplier for a some lovely places. I aim to get onto more lists so that I can grow my reputation further. There is a wealth of fantastic suppliers up in my area and I have invested time in meeting these fabulous people to chat about what we both do and all things wedding related. Its been great and I aim to continue networking amongst suppliers in order to refer couples to them in the future.
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
As previously mentioned, nature is by far my biggest inspiration. This is because it’s always changing and there is so much to look at and touch. I just love it. I stay in a beautiful part of Scotland which is famed for its Trees. We have huge variety up here and in the autumn the colours are breathtaking, needless to say autumn is my favourite time of year.
