About to be Hitched is a wedding stationery marketplace that not only features owner Georgina’s on trend designs, but also showcases the work of a carefully curated group of wedding stationers. This means that the site is buzzing with new ideas and there really is something for everyone from wooden Save the Dates to wedding favours and guest books, and of course an extensive range of stationery suites.
We’ll hand you over to Georgina, About To Be Hitched’s dynamic owner to tell you more about herself and her business.
Tell us a little about yourself and your business
Being the daughter of an artist and a joiner, my creative flair was encouraged as soon as I could hold a pencil. Art and design has been and always will be my passion. I have been the art student with purple hair, the fashion student who focused on bridal and lingerie, a single mum, an ambitious graphic designer, and the bride who wore a scarlet red wedding dress. All these aspects have brought me to where I am today. I run About to be Hitched, an online wedding stationery market place. As well as designing and selling my own branded wedding stationery, I sell wedding stationery by other designers too. Together, we offer a large range of design styles, catering for all types of weddings and themes.
We sell all kinds of wedding stationery and have everything you need including Save the Dates, Invitations, on the day stationery as well as wedding favours, guest books and thank you cards.
Our designers are able to log into our system to upload their new products along with their own images, descriptions and prices. This really widens the scope for our customers, because our website is constantly updated with new products. I love running my website, it drives me and gives me the opportunity to collaborate with other like-minded designers.
I don’t get the ‘Monday morning’ feel when I sit at my desk. Instead, I am enthusiastic and full of ideas. I am very lucky to be doing what I love for a living.
What motivated you to start your business?
I have always had a keen interest in the wedding industry, dating back to designing wedding dresses when I was a teenager, keeping sketch books and collecting bridal magazines. I went on to study fashion in college. This was when I discovered coloured wedding dresses. I loved the drama of black wedding gowns and the vibrancy of red gowns.
My career led me down a graphic design path so when I got engaged I couldn’t wait to design my own wedding stationery. The day everything jumped into action was the day I was told I was going to be made redundant from my graphic design job. After getting the news, to cheer myself up I decided to open my wedding stationery that had just arrived from the printers.
Once I’d had a good look through all our stationery the thought suddenly came into my head, “I should do this for a living!” Everything lead on from there. My fiancée (now husband) runs his own software company so he built my website and it was his idea to sell other designer’s products too.
Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business
My days are varied according to what is happening with my designers, the sales and where I’m up to with my own designs and admin. Some days are creative days when I’m brainstorming and designing and other days can be less creative when I do my admin or pack up orders.
There are also days when I’m in the mood for writing, so I’ll write product descriptions or blogs. The things I do every single day though include updating my social media pages and emails.
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
We only work with designers who create beautiful designs and produce stationery that is of the highest standard of quality. We also insist upon good communication so we can easily liaise between our customers and designers when discussing orders.
Our e-commerce platform allows our customers to buy their wedding stationery safely online. You can always expect professionalism and friendliness.
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
The advantage of About to be Hitched is that we are a market place where many designers sell their products so there will always be plenty of choice and new designs coming out. A lot of our collections offer a full range of matching wedding stationery too.
Our designers are also very versatile, so designs can often be altered to suit our customer’s individual needs. Colour schemes can be changed, additional matching items can designed, and so-on! Your readers have the ideal opportunity here to find the perfect wedding stationery for their big day.
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
Being in my thirties, I am at that age when I’m attending quite a few weddings, but of course the one that stands out is my own. One of my favourite and proudest moments is of walking down the aisle with my children and my sisters. My youngest son (who was only three at the time) led our procession while holding our rings. My two step daughters and my sisters followed individually. I then followed arm in arm with my ten-year-old son.It is an unforgettable and magical memory. One of my step daughters read out a reading in the ceremony she’d written herself which was lovely. Having our photos taken with my transport (a fire engine!) was brilliant, and being encircled by our family and friends while they sang along to Bon Jovi’s Always was incredible. It really was the best day of our lives.
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more.
Our products are personalised, which opens up opportunities for customising a product that may be wedding related as advertised, but can have different wording provided by the customer to use for a reason that is not wedding related. For example, a lot of our wooden wedding stationery can be engraved with any wording of your choice, so you can use them as birthday gifts, or for father’s day or mother’s day gifts for example.
There are also items such as wooden place names. These can be used for birthday parties, hen do’s or baby showers. You can even use them for your family members at Christmas, marking their place at the dinner table, or use them as gift tags!
We also have letter bunting, so you can purchase the letters you need to spell out the wording of your choice and we have plain guest books that you can use for any creative project. You can use them as memory scrap books, or DIY photo albums. We also have plain blackboard signs so that you can create your own signs.
What have you got planned for the next 12 months?
We plan to grow bigger through taking on more designers. The more designers we have, the more choice we can provide. I would love to get some really alternative wedding stationery on the website too.
I’m always excited about taking new designers on because each one brings with them their own ideas and they provide the website with a more diverse product range.
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
I think anyone with a creative mind can be easily inspired when they live and breathe a creative career. Sometimes just one colour can inspire me to design a whole wedding stationery suite. Some inspiration comes from research (I love to have a good researching session).
Inspiration also comes from bouncing ideas around with other creative minds around me and brainstorming.
In my personal life, my family inspire me. The unconditional love, support and guidance from my parents has been an ongoing encouragement for as long as I can remember. My husband is my soulmate, who supports me in every way possible. My children are my motivation. They bring me joy and purpose, and they give me and my husband something to always be proud of.
