Tell us a little about yourself and your business
Here at The Little Stationery House we create modern, luxury and quirky Invitation suites and On the Day Stationery. I have been designing for large established companies such as Clintons, Marks and Spencer, Card Factory (to name a few) for the past 5 years.
What motivated you to start your business?
Being the paper-geek I am I wanted to take my experience and passion for design and create my own quirky and unique business,
I love using my knowledge of different printing techniques, card stocks, finishes to compliment my hand illustrated graphics to create gorgeous stationery for the modern savvy couples who are looking to wed.
Most of our orders come via our website where we have a range of in-house designs, however we do offer a Luxury Bespoke Service which right now is free with every stationery order! We have worked on some fantastic projects over the last couple of months such as our new Wooden Save the Dates, a Zoo theme for a couple getting married at the zoo as-well as illustrating a couple for their rustic tipi themed wedding.
The team here find the bespoke quirky themes the most enjoyable as when our customers give us feedback they always seem to be over the moon with the quality and the results we achieve! You can read this on the many lovely reviews we have.
Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business
A typical day in the studio consists of lots of brewing up and having the hits playing in the background so the team can get in to their creativity zone. We all have different roles in the studio, but we have regular team meetings where we can express our ideas and come up with the best possible outcome for our customers.
We strive for the very best and are always encouraging and rewarding each other for the great work we produce, I strongly believe that crediting and keeping your work members happy and motivated is the best way to create the environment where creativity flows.
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
A friendly and bubbly discussion of what you need and want to achieve with your wedding stationery. If you’re looking for a bespoke and unique to your day order, we would love to see what ideas you have initially. This can be done via email or we can arrange to meet with you at a cafe with our pretty little notebooks at the ready.
Alternatively if you you’re not sure about your stationery, but have a theme in mind we’ll work one to one with you suggesting ideas of how we could create something that reflects both you and your partner and also links in beautifully with your wedding theme.
Our bespoke process usually takes up to 5 weeks, a deposit will be put down firstly to book your time in the studio and then once the design is perfect for you the remaining balance will be paid before it goes to print. Once we receive the order it will go through our quality control process in the studio to ensure the quality is to the highest of our standards and lovingly packaged and sent out to you with our postie.
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
We try to make ourselves fit in to everyone’s needs. We love taking on challenges and creating completely new and unique designs, anything you’re thinking of I’m sure we can achieve this for you at a budget friendly cost too!
However, if I were to list a few things, I think the main factor when entrusting a company with your wedding stationery is to make sure they’re versatile, love a challenge but most importantly have show-cased the different types of styles they can achieve so you as a customer personally feel in safe hands.
Going the extra mile is important to. For example meeting your customer so they know you on a more personal level and being able to take on their wedding theme, and suggest idea you know they will love by taking the time to research their style and the theme they have in mind.
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
Due to mainly being stuck behind my Mac screen with fluff-ball cat Dodjer snoozing on my lap we don’t really get to see our work on show, so I would say my favourite moments would be when our customers take the time to give their photographers our details or send photos from their wedding day!
We love seeing how they set up the stationery we’ve done for them and we love hearing how amazing they think it looked and how happy they are with our service and the final product.
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more
As a new smaller business, myself and some of my studio members do work freelance on projects for bigger companies. We dabble in the Greetings Industry, The Magazine Industry as-well as taking on smaller graphic design projects for smaller companies looking for professional branding and promotions materials
What have you got planned for 2017?
We have tons of exciting projects planned for 2017, we’ll be promoting our stationery products further and showcasing ourselves in different regions of the UK to achieve a larger customer base.
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
I don’t think we have a ‘who’ but what inspires us are the small one-women/men businesses, the dreamers, the creatives and thinkers who don’t necessarily fit into someone else’s business so they have the courage to start on their own, with their own vision and create a successful, unique/quirky and most importantly customer-loved business.
The ones who break the mould. They inspire us to step out of our comfort zones and create good quality design, that isn’t mass produced but is just lovingly unique and we hope every piece of stationery we design reflects that and our story.
