Tell us a little about yourself and your business

My name is Hayley Vernon, I have being running The Wedding Parcel for 7 years, I have been happily married for 7 years too! My husband and I have two little girls, they are chalk and cheese.

In my spare time I run an ectopic pregnancy support group as our first pregnancy was an ectopic, this group is very important to me as it not only raises awareness but it’s also a place for ectopic pregnancy sufferers to come together and talk about their experiences.

I am a huge fan of Gin, I love to try a new Gin every time we go out.

I work from my home studio where I play Christmas music every day just because I love it! I design and print all types of stationery, from save the date fridge magnets to wedding table plans. I specialise in wedding table plans and destination wedding invitations. Our Message in a bottle wedding invitation is very popular for couples getting married abroad and I frequently design bespoke seating plans for couples too.

What motivated you to start your business?

My own wedding! I spent so much time looking for perfect invitations and in the end decided that I needed to make them myself. After my invites went out, I was told by my guests that they were amazing, I was asked by family and friends and friends of friends to make their stationery. It got to the point where I was doing so much for The Wedding Parcel that I had to leave my full time job.

I have always been obsessed with weddings since I was a little girl, and I guess I wanted to be part of other people’s special days too.

Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business

Firstly the music goes on, then the kettle! I like to check my inbox and reply to my customers while my printers are warming up.

Then I work from my “priority list” ticking off as I go along. Our message in a bottle invites are very popular so I have to make up 1 tray every day to keep on top of orders.

By this time it’s normally time for bite to eat, then, back into the studio for processing and completing orders. I down tools to spend time with my family for a few hours then when the girls are in bed my laptop comes out and I sit in my favourite chair with a cup of tea doing my design work.

If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?

I only use high quality materials for my stationery, and I look after each customer as if they were my only customer. I am very flexible, a few of the testimonials on my website mention how patient I am and how professional I am.

The Wedding Parcel is dedicated to helping make the entire “stationery” chapter of your wedding as fun and as easy as it can possibly be. One of my customers once said “if only I was in charge of the weather” it’s definitely these comments that drive me.

How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?

I would definitely say firstly, with a little research. Most businesses have Google reviews, Facebook reviews and a dedicated testimonial section on their website.

Secondly by contacting the company by telephone, this way you get to talk through your requirements with someone and you get a feel for how they are and how they do business.

Lastly I would say that it would be down to different tastes, most couples have an idea of what style they would like their wedding to have, so you will naturally be drawn to those designs.

What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?

Ahhh so many!  I do speak with the odd customer on the phone but 90% of my communications are done over email. It’s amazing how you can develop such a special relationship having never seen/met the person you are speaking with. I still have customers from years ago who send me Christmas cards!

It’s really hard to pinpoint a specific couple because they have all be a joy to work with, but I suppose one couple in particular were due to get married in the May but the mother of the bride passed away in the March. They had planned to have a vintage/rustic style “on the day” stationery set and this had all been confirmed.

After the bride’s mother passed away the bride wanted to change the theme to make it all about her, of course I was more than happy to oblige. We spoke every day on the phone reorganising the stationery, often we would shed a few tears together and we got very close. To this day I am still in contact with her and she is very special to me.

The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more

Absolutely! I have been approached to design birthday invitations, christening invitations and my personal favourite message in a bottle pirate invitations!

I do have two sister sites waiting to be opened ‘The Baby Parcel’ and ‘The Party Parcel’ but I just don’t have the time at the moment to put the work in.

When my youngest starts primary school in September I will be putting all of my extra efforts into these sites, I’m very excited about them!

What have you got planned for 2017?

Definitely trying more Gin’s, I’m planning on opening the two sister sites so I will have to put a huge amount of time into that. I want to maintain my standards and carry on enjoying my job!

And finally, what or who inspires you and why?

Nature, the world! I love nature, I’m really into the weather, I love a good thunderstorm, when it’s freezing cold outside and the wind and rain crash against the window.

I love those mornings waking up to complete silence, opening the curtains to see a blanket of soft white snow. The horses in the field down the road, the robin’s that visit our back garden daily, the squirrels who arrive every morning on time to collect the nuts we leave out for them, the joy we get from home cooking, trying different curries and Italian.

I love everything about nature and what this world gives us!
