Well, who knew that paper flowers could look so eye-catchingly beautiful? We’re delighted to introduce you to Crafts by PG and their adorable paper wedding bouquets and wedding flowers.
As you’ll see, the flowers they Crafts By PG create are delightfully detailed and the story of how their business has involved is equally fascinating. The stage is yours Holly & Laura to tell us more:
Tell us a little about yourself and your business
We are Holly and Laura a married couple who now live in London. We make paper flowers from second-hand books and other paper materials. We then use these flowers to create bouquets, button holes, brooches, hair clips, fairy lights and wreaths.
What motivated you to start your business?
Our business idea actually started with me (Holly) at school. I was working with a group of disengaged students and was finding it really hard to get them to engage in any purposeful activities when I discovered some origami paper in a cupboard, for the first time since I had been teaching them they all got involved in the activity and were so proud of the outcome, it became a stepping stone for them to take pride in their work.
I then took some of the flowers I had made in the lesson home and showed Laura. She loved them and we decided to incorporate them into our wedding, including our favourite books (Harry Potter and Dr Seuss and also creating a rainbow colour palette)
Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business
Day to day we both have day jobs however most evenings we come home and create some flowers. If prepping for a wedding this will involve an evening of cutting and folding or sticking and arranging. If we are getting ready for a fair this will mean we will have a look at the books we have and thinking about what we want to make and what might sell.
Yesterday we were in a Disney mood and some Minnie Mouse buttons had arrived in the post so we made a small bouquet of flowers made from a Minnie mouse book accented with pink flowers that had Minnie buttons. It is super cute!
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
A totally personalised service, all of our wedding flowers are totally made to order so from the beginning we will get the full details of their theme and colour palette so we can get the right materials for them.
We are fanatical about the details and want to make sure that the couple are completely happy every step of the way. This means we have regular contact checking they are happy with the how the flowers are looking as they are progressing, that they are the right size, colour and theme.
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
If a couple want something a little different for their flowers to fit with their theme, we can make flowers from any paper materials so this could be a favourite book or theatre programme, newspapers from important dates or just a different set of colours that real flowers can’t provide.
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
Our favourite moments have been when the couple have said to people that they can take the flowers home, as they last forever. Seeing how quickly they have disappeared with people has been such a confidence boost, it has then been amazing when the couple’s have sent us photos of what their family and friends have done with the flowers.
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more
As well as wedding flowers we can make flowers for any occasion birthdays, anniversaries, mothers day, valentines day etc. As our flowers are all bespoke we can tailor them to any occasion.
We also love craft fairs and make a range of products for these that we also sell on Etsy – fairy lights, brooches, hair clips, wreaths etc.
What have you got planned for 2017?
We only started our business last year so we are still working out our big sellers and what sells at craft fairs. We are going to continue with the craft fairs to understand this more.
In terms of weddings we did one in April and have another in September. We are also trying to get our names our there in the wedding world through lovely blogs like this.
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
We take our inspiration for weddings from the couple, they tell us their theme and we run with it. It is so exciting seeing an idea grow and develop into the finished flowers.
We also get our inspirations from the books we use, we try to ensure that the colours used complement the story.
