Seven Sensational Wedding Dress Necklines

by Michelle

Which wedding dress neckline will suit you best? Take a look at this selection of my favourites, together with my thoughts on which styles will suit your body shape.

I’d love to hear your thoughts too, which necklines do you prefer and have you got any fab photos to share with us, perhaps of yourself on your big day.

Sweetheart Necklines

Sweetheart necklines are fitted and shaped like the top half of a heart around your bust.  A flattering style that suits most shapes.

This pretty scalloped neckline forms a natural heart shape across the bust, exposing the central part of the neck. Great for creating that classic bridal silhouette, sweetheart necklines are ideal for medium to well-endowed busts, showing just the right amount of cleavage.

Bateau Necklines

A bateau is a straight, high neckline that follows the curve of your collar bone to the tip of your shoulders. This is a super-elegant choice for a traditional wedding because of the extra coverage it gives. Many brides are adopting the high bateau neckline but as a sheer or lace overlay, so just a hint of skin can be seen through the fabric.

Bardot Necklines

A bardot neckline is an absolute classic, with it’s characteristic off the shoulder silhouette, it allows you to show your collar bone & shoulders in  really attractive way, whilst giving you arm coverage, with the choice of either elegant full length or cute short sleeves.

Illusion Necklines

An amazingly  popular choice at the moment, illusion necklines feature lace detailing on on sheer fabric. It’s such an attractive look and really draws the eye to the top of the dress.

V Neck Styles

This sexy plunging v-shape exposes the neck and décolletage. It’s an ideal shape for a relaxed civil ceremony, or a wedding abroad, where a higher neckline may prove too hot and uncomfortable.

V-necks are great for petites as they create the illusion of height, they also balance an hourglass figure well too.

 Halterneck
If you’re tall with broad shoulders a halterneck will work for you. Again, this is a more contemporary choice for a wedding gown and is another popular choice for destination weddings.

Showing off the shoulders and upper arms like this can help to elongate a petite bride. It can also help you to avoid that unsightly fold of skin some ill-fitting strapless gowns can create.

Strapless

The most popular neckline for wedding dresses right now, strapless styles are romantic and elegant .

Strapless dresses are great for accentuating the collarbone area, ideal if you have a gorgeous necklace you want to show off. A strapless dress sits across the bust and under the arms, fastening securely at the back.
