Tell us a little about yourself and your business/What motivated you to start your business?

I’m Luke, the owner of Moroccan marquee and shisha lounge hire business Fancy Tentacles Ltd, sister company of the well known festival cafe Smoky Tentacles.

We decided to set the hire company up after many years trading on the festival circuit with our travelling shisha lounge and chill-out cafe Smoky Tentacles. Over the  years we had many admiring glances and queries about the beautiful Moroccan tent that we used to house our space, so we decided to take the next logical step and set up a company dedicated to hiring these stunning tents out to others!

Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business

In the summer we tend to be flat out with events of one kind or another. Our shisha cafe Smoky Tentacles is usually out on tour on the festival circuit and throwing up all kinds of logistical problems, whilst other marquees are going up for weddings, private parties and corporate events.

Things tend to get quite hectic over that period and there is never a dull moment! The rest of the time is spent liaising with clients, loading and unloading vans and doing all that fun day to day stuff that makes a business tick.

If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?

We love getting to know couples and really understanding what they are looking to achieve. As a relatively small company we make the time to work closely with each individual couple to ensure that their dreams are realised.

We have a fantastic creative team with a wide range of experience, so if there is something a client wants that they can’t get off the shelf, we can often create things to order, such as personalised signage and props.

Our personal approach to customer service ensures that all the planning is in place so that when the big day comes there are no hiccups, leaving only space for an amazing and unforgettable day for everyone. We are always happy to go the extra mile!

How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?

Speaking directly to who you’re going to be working with is often a good way of telling whether you’re going to build up a rapport, be that over the phone or in person. We would always recommend getting to know who you are working with before making any decisions.

Building a good relationship with a supplier you are confident with and can trust will make your wedding planning so much less stressful. As a supplier we want to be confident that we are reading off the same page as our clients, for us, the key to a successful day is getting to know each couple personally in advance. We want to understand them, and what they want, this way we can provide our best possible service.

What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?

We’ve worked with some fantastic people in some stunning locations. Getting dragged into a huge outdoor Ceilidh dance at one of our recent festival weddings was great fun and something that will stick in the memory for a while!

The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more

Absolutely! As well as weddings, we hire Moroccan tents and shisha lounges for everything from corporate events through to backstage tents and twenty first birthday parties and have worked with a wide range of clients.

We frequently provide deluxe shisha lounge packages for university balls too and are regular fixtures at the prestigious Oxford colleges.

What have you got planned for the next 12 months?

We’re expecting an action packed 2019, we’ve got some fantastic weddings planned for our clients! Glastonbury is also back on of course which is always a big event in our calendar and we’re also planning a trip to Morocco to hunt for more stunning linings and props for our tents!

And finally, what or who inspires you and why?

Experiencing new places and cultures always gives us a buzz and gets the creative juices flowing. Soaking up different scenery, colours and trying new food is always stimulating and gives us plenty of fresh ideas to incorporate into what we can offer. It was after all the love of travel that led us to be what we were doing in the first place!
