Back in November we had the pleasure of meeting Gemma owner of ‘Bubbles & Bakes’ at Newton Abbot Race Course Wedding Fair.
Her cute as a button converted Piaggio Ape Van dispenses a range of drinks from Prosecco and Frizzante to red, white and rose wine. With Prosecco being the go to fizz of the moment, what better way to enhance your wedding celebrations and give your guests a real treat than to hire this gorgeous little retro van?
Selected sparkling cocktails such as a chilled Bellini, can also be served. And if the thought of this lovely fizz is making you feel a little peckish, then bespoke cakes cupcakes can also be ordered to co-ordinate with your wedding theme.
If this sounds like just your glass of fizz, here’s what Gemma has to say about what ‘Bubbles & Bakes’ has to offer:
Tell us a little about yourself and your business
Bubbles the Van is a gorgeous, lovingly converted Piaggio Ape Van that can dispense draught cold Frizzante, as well as Prosecco both white and rose, also still red, white and rose wine. You can also have a mimosa bar or themed Fizz Cocktails.
I can also provide delicious cupcakes, cakes and treats, personalised to suit the theme or colours of the event.
What motivated you to start your business?
I have been party and event planning for family and friends for a number of years, and wanted to do something completely different from my main career, so thought that Bubbles would provide something unique for the Bride & Groom. I have also been a cake maker for a few years based out of my home kitchen.
Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business.
We are still very new and busy building links with other suppliers in the Wedding Industry, as well as applying for events and festivals around the region. There are active social media accounts to keep up with and marketing too! My cake making can be anything from a small order to deliver to a wedding cake consultation with a Bride & Groom.
If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?
Bubbles is very compact and ready to go, I wanted to make sure she would be something that everyone would fall in love with and is deliberately de-branded so that she would compliment any photos or background and theme the couple wanted. She is perfect for welcome drinks or for a longer bar service. We offer a professional service aimed at making sure that every last detail was right and fits with the whole feel of the wedding concept. In addition, when I make cakes for a wedding, I like to offer a unique recipe that again fits with the feel and theme of the day and Bubbles the Van is no different. As the Fizz is draught, there is no need for big or noisy refrigeration units, and she only requires a standard plug to run, no bottles means better for the environment and she is small enough to fit through a double door so can always be brought inside!
How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?
I think that you need to find people who you click with, who get what picture you have created in your mind for your big day, that you feel are going to get on with providing a professional service with minimal fuss so that you can concentrate on enjoying your wedding day!
What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?
I always love seeing the bride/groom’s reaction to the final set-up!
The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more.
Yes! Bubbles can be hired for any event big or small!
What have you got planned for 2017?
Hopefully some local festivals and events around the West country and working with some lovely wedding planners and venues.
And finally, what or who inspires you and why?
That will always be my parents, my mother who is a great business women and has taught me so much about running your own business, and my father who was bit of a Del Boy and did everything from Taxi Driver to Landlord and everything in between, and taught me to be resilient, and that no matter what, every new business has its ups and downs!
