Imagine a beautiful bespoke one of a kind wedding gown, that fits you like a glove and makes you feel a million dollars. Fantastic news, you don’t have to imagine, simply visit a made to measure couture boutique and the incredible wedding gown you’ve always dreamed of could be yours.

Today, we have the pleasure of being in conversation with Eloise proprietor of Eloise Alice, a London based bridal and formal wear couture fashion house.

Eloise prides herself on having an intricate attention to detail, an eye for elegance and a passion for bespoke embellishment. Sounds like a fabulous place to start when designing a luxury gown.

Imagine also, the thrill of being totally involved with the design of your special gown from the initial sketches, to looking through gorgeous fabrics and trims, trying on the initial prototype or toile, as it’s correctly known. Then, after several fittings; the magical moment when you are actually wearing the dress of your dreams. Over to Eloise to tell us more about how it’s all done:

Tell us a little about yourself and your business

I create bespoke wedding gowns closely collaborating with my clients.  Handmade in London, each gown is a one off individual design, which can include corsetry, hand embroidery and beading.  I have developed an intricate attention to detail and an eye for elegance and sophistication with a passion for detailed bespoke embellishments.

I believe that how a dress feels is just as important as how it looks and so all of our gowns are lined in silk.  Using the most luxurious silks and laces I create modern designs with more classical traditional ones.  By choosing a couture designer it enables you to choose every element of your dress, from your concept, to your ideal fabrics.

What motivated you to start your business?

I have always been incredibly passionate about gorgeous silks and fabrics and I am never happier than when I am surrounded by a beautiful piece of lace with a needle and thread.  Working with brides is such a magical time in their lives and they are always so excited its such a pleasure to create their dream dress. Its always been a childhood dream that I would one day create my own wedding dress label.

Tell us a little more about the day to day activities of your business.

Every day is different – having never made the same gown twice I’m always kept on my toes working out how best to construct a gown so that it achieves the design and look that the bride is after.  I spend time drawing up new designs and sourcing fabrics.  I try to dedicate some time to social media but my heart is always at the sewing machine and its the place I like to be at the most.

If our readers were to order from you, what can they expect?

Having a couture gown means you do not have to compromise on any aspect of the design or fabric.  It allows you the flexibility of having exactly what you want.  I work very closely with you to design and create your perfect gown.  During your initial design consultation we will discuss styles, silhouettes and fabrics that you like and that complement your figure.

After the first consultation the bride will be given design drawings and fabric samples.  Once the design has been decided upon a toile will be made to your measurements.  There is nothing more flattering than a couture gown, which is made entirely to your measurements.  The final design and fabrics will then be chosen after any design tweaks are made in the toile.  A further 4-5 fittings may then be required in their chosen silk.

How can couples judge if a company is the right fit for their wedding?

Having your dress designed and made is such a personal experience I don’t think you can make the decision whether a particular designer is right for you until you have met them in person.  If you feel comfortable and the designer understands what you want then you have the perfect match.

What are your favourite moments from previous weddings you’ve been involved with?

There is nothing more exciting than seeing a bride putting on their gown and watching them glow both inside and out, knowing that they feel the most beautiful they can be.

The bigger picture – does your business offer goods/services outside of the wedding world? Tell us more.

Yes I create evening dresses and occasional wear.  The same design process applies.

What have you got planned for 2017?

Not only will I be creating lots of custom gowns for her clients but she I will also be exhibiting at Brides The Show again and will be making a couple of gowns especially for the catwalk.

And finally, what or who inspires you and why?

I take lots of inspiration from just walking around the exclusive fabric houses.  Seeing a beautiful fabric always gets my creative imagination rolling.  I also like to keep an eye on what fashions are emerging for the coming season.
